FDX-Vacation Question
#11
Go back and read mine. I had a Jul03 trip that carried over into Aug03, I bumped it with VAC in Jul03. All the VAC days and buffers were in Jul03, but I still conflicted a trip in the first week of Aug03 with the ghost footprint!

Hope you get a clear answer from the planners.

And The Answer Is....
According to the 727 Capt. Planner (the only one who would answer her phone), if you have a carry-over trip that you hit with a vacation expansion, you do create a "ghost footprint" of that trip. If you are awarded a line the following month that has a trip that touches that ghost footprint, it will be dropped CIC. I was told that you could potentially get the trip back as a M/U during one of the bid resolution windows as long as the vacation "as awarded or slid" didn't touch the trip you were trying to M/U.
Thanks for all your thoughts on this. Too bad it's not obvious in our CBA.

The answer I got from all three was the same one you got. Any carrover trip that is knocked out by vacation creates a "ghost" footprint, even if that trip is totally within the vacation footprint. They said that carry-in conflicts (even with a "ghost" trip) are processed before vacation. And that you cannot be paid for two trips that overlap footprints.
In my case, my vacation ends on July 13th, and the carryover trip ends on July 6th. If I bid for any line that has a trip that has a showtime within 1/2 hour of the scheduled land time for the carryover trip, it will be removed for a carry-in conflict. They did say the usual rest issues legalities do not apply - don't need 12 hours off, etc.
So, if I want to protect the carryover and maximize the July paycheck, I cannot bid for any line that has a trip with a showtime prior to 1830 of July 6th (I still want to knock out 20-30 hours worth of trips with the remaining vacation days).
When I asked where this issue was addressed in the CBA, I was told it wasn't there, but that this was the way it had been handled since the FCH days. Definitely needs to be spelled out better in the next contract.
