UPS Aircraft

I was told by a manager that UPS wanted a ton more at that price but since it was just a placeholder to get them through to the AF contract, Boeing wouldn't seel them to us. If Boeing is still trying to hold the line open while they appeal this, maybe we can get some more at the same low low price?

Don't want to look like a buzzard circling over a carcass but, do the ABX 767s have a cargo door or are they loaded by that Rube Goldberg contraption through the cockpit door?

Heard from a UPS manager the other day that the 777's are definitely on the way. He said to expect an announcement soon. Though I have heard that before and the managers know as much or as little as we line guys do. Anyone hear this latest rumor floating around?
Also any fellow UPSers know if we still have "store credit" with Airbus because of the cancellation of the A300's and 380's?
Cheers

Yes, I heard it very recently from several management types that I had the pleasure to fly with. But, I think the delivery schedule will be years into the future. It will not help us with the estimated 100,000 packages a night from the DHL venture that is currently taking 106 aircraft to fly.

You may be right about the slots being available from Boeing. But Boeing usually "saves" slots for customers with large orders. I've also heard we already had slots saved for a small fee last year. 106 aircraft? I dont think ALL of ABX birds went to the DHL contract. I was thinking more like 70 were used between ABX and Astar for DHL.

We will be lucky to see a substantial increase in flying. UPS has perfected the art of transporting packages in the most efficient manner as possible. I suspect that some will be flown by us on EXISTING flights, some NEW flights, and will see much of it trucked and delivered by rail.
Case in point: sent a package overnight NDA from suburban Chicago to Minneapolis. It NEVER touched an airplane. Went by truck the whole way. However, the customer thinks he is sending it via the air. Most only care that it makes service, and nothing else.
