Also, much of the volume likely will not get into 'new' airplanes anyway. Much of the air volume will simply go on the existing Airbus's etc, where the DC-9 goes currently. The rest will go on trucks that you currently fly.
Menlo (Emery) volume often goes by truck. They have a huge truck hub at SDF. We gained nothing in jobs or pilots. UPS also delayed usinf IPA pilots for a year after the contractual timelines. UPS will screw us the same as DHL screwed you.
It ain't the IPA pilots who set up this deal. You are getting the short end, we don't like it either since your pilot group has done alot for our business.
The IPA pilot board comment are in a state of sorrow/sympathy for your pilot group. No gloating. Peace.

I am total agreement here with the majority here. I feel as sick to my stomach for all of you as if it was happening to us. Noone wants anyone to be without a job. We all have families to support and for this happen is a tough blow. You guys have have been so gracious to us over the years and I wish as a group there was something we could do. Please remember when we all cross paths that this is a UPS-DHL venture not a UPS-IPA-DHL venture. Noone asked any of us what we thought. If a brother or sister is down we will do what we can to help you get up. On the other side of the coin I glad for a change that it is us (UPS) with some positive news, but for the most part I am sad because it will be at the expense of someone else.
Lastly, for all of us at UPS. Mark these words. We are all just one UPS Management decision away from a job loss. Nothing is guaranteed.
Best to all of you,
Heavyjet

We didn't pick up anything from the European open skys... and if UPS needed to or could cut a deal to put some stuff on a DHL contactor abroad, I'm sure they would. This relationship needs to be watched.
Ultimately, I feel terrible for our fellow brothers and sisters. This is my sixth airline. I've started over many times. It isn't fun. I am always looking for that stability that doesn't exist. I can hear it in the voices of my friends at UAL, NWA, AA, JetBlue, Frontier, etc. I cannot imagine any pilot at UPS gloating.

I can. Like you, I'm on my 7th airline and I am blessed to be here.
We may arguably be on top today, but tomorrow holds no guarantees especially within aviation.
Hopefully, UPS sees the pilots of ASTAR and ABX as a gold mine of talent. After our poolies, it would be beneficial, IMHO; to hire these experienced cargo pilots to fly our cargo planes.
Salty Dog, brings up an excellent point. Our MEC should have his hackles up to make sure that the scope of the flying resides within the IPA pilot group. Point well taken, sir.
Ok, back to my igloo,

You are aware that Menlo was actually Emery Worldwide and that Emery Worldwide's freight was flown by Emery Worldwide Airlines prior to their planned shutdown? And are you aware that the EWA pilots are still in litigation with respect to outsourcing Emery's freight? Just want to keep the historical record straight here.

Thanks to all UPS'ers for your kind words. I have friends at UPS who have all mirrored your words. As I sit here in dismay I can't help but think about how tough this is going to be for me and my family. We have built a good life around Astar and the good pay and benefits it provided. I provided years of service and dedication to Astar/DHL and it served me well until yesterday. Our loss of high paying jobs is a huge loss for the industry as a whole and it sickens me to think what DHL is capable of. Be wary of the devil because the devil is DHL. They are a huge company, arrogant, unforgiving and merciless on their employees. I am glad to be free of them finally. For those of you unfamiliar with their business tactics, it may be advantageous for you to educate yourselves. Working for such a lying, cheating, back stabbing company always sickened me anyway. I wish now for their total demise and it will happen one day. What goes around comes around. But for now, its off to somewhere else.
