Cnx (Cancel for those of you in Rio Linda). You know I was sittin here listening to this Codger talk about how he had bypass surgery and I kept thinking to myself, "why am I paying for this?". Not to mention he is still overweight, he is now going back to the front.

Guys, there is no way in the world that this VEBA stuff can go on. Next Contract NO VEBA and repayment for all of us that contributed. Say what you want to about The Codger Protection change, but we have a way lopsided contract now. "Its time for a change" beginning with Cnx of VEBA.

How about reducing each codger's VEBA fund $5K (20%) for every year he stays beyond age 60. I plan on going at 58 and 7 months and it would be nice to still have my VEBA!

What he said!

Turn it into an incentive to leave.

Default I've sure gotten old ...

I've sure gotten old!
I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement,
new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes.
I'm half blind,
can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine,
take 40 different medications that
make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts.
Have bouts with dementia.
Have poor circulation;
hardly feel my hands and feet anymore.
Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92.
Have lost all my friends.
But, thank God,
I still have my pilot's license
.

Of course, the VEBA we all contribute to each month is a post 65 Medicare supplement insurance. See Section 27 I. Post-Medicare Retiree Health. You do plan on living past 65, don't you? Or should we just Cnx your post 65 health insurance?

Knowing the CBA is essential.

For those of us purple-challenged - is VEBA sort of like mutual aid at UPS?

VEBA is an IRS term relating to non taxable money set aside for health care. At fedex we have two types. One is to help retired geezers on medicare pay for extras. All pilots contribute $.50 an hour towards this. The other was a gift for all pilots over 53 at last contract signing. This $25K plus interest was supposed to help them pay for health care from normal retirement to age 65. No provisions to reduce this if said pilot did not leave prior to 65. Fund one started with a $35 million lump sum from the company and several million from the Bros (no vote). The union has never said how much fund two cost the rest of the membership.

Voluntary Employees Beneficiary Association. We have two. One is for post retirement/pre-medicare, and consists of a Health Reimbursement Account of $25K for use over the 5 years. Some feel this is now redundant, even though no one has to stay till 65 under our current CBA. This VEBA is fully funded by Company and Union contributions made after signing the CBA.

The other VEBA is for post-medicare health care. It is funded by an initial Company contribution and a $0.50 per credit hour monthly contribution by each pilot. The health plan is administered by Fdx Alpa.

Actually, unless I heard him wrong, our R & I chairman at an LEC joint meeting said the company was so happy to get rid of responsibility for post-Medicare health care that it didn't cost us anything. I'm sure you can contact S S and confirm this.
