FDX - What's wrong with our Union?
We don't have one, really.
I just read the minutes from our Council 22 meeting of Mar 25...
Under the title, "Members in Attendance", it listed 8 people. That's 8 members out of more than 1500, made their union meeting.
Of course, there's not much going on right now at FedEx. So, I can see why people wouldn't be interested.
And, of course, our leaders don't listen to us. Especially these 3. Seeing as we recently elected them, with the hope of regaining control of our MEC.
I know, I know. We're commuters. And, it's hard to get to MEM, just for a union meeting. And, the other 40%(600+), that live in MEM? I guess they're just too busy to make it. And getting from the hub, on a turn, to a meeting is nearly impossible.
It would be funny, if it wasn't so sad. We all "talk the talk"...But most, definitely can't "walk the walk". We biatch and moan about our leadership, or lack thereof. And, then turn around and show absolutely no interest in being part of the process.
Pathetic.

Until the webcast option is online, why doesn't the union have their meetings during the hub turn in the AOC. Not saying it would completely solve the attendance problem, but I'm willing to bet there would be a better turn out than what was described in the original post.

I have a cell phone too. Happen to use it a bit to call folks I know. Even works when I'm on the road in another state. No extra charges or anything. If your minutes are hurting, you can use skype.

Wow!! You guys have got it all figured out. That's great.
That must be why last fall's recall results were so powerful. Gunter was voting with his cellphone? And, FDXLAG was waiting for webcast.
Whatever. Carry on.

Heres a newsflash for you Bus: ALPA doesn't really want anybody at those meetings. Its much easier to get done and back on the golf course if there aren't all those pesky line pilots around to ask questions like why did you sell us out and how come the LOA is such a POS.
Pathetic is right.

Sorry Busboy but you're way off base on this one. I have made the meetings for about the last year and a half (I even came down a day or two after I got married), and I have to say commuting to Memphis just to sit through some lectures and attend a LEC meeting, that doesn't have a lot to cover, IS a TOTAL waste of time. This method of running a union might work for a local company and a local union hall but not for 5000+ guys and gals most of who are commuters. Our union "leaders" need to stop cringing in the corner listening to the doom and gloom from a bunch of lawyers about why we can't "webcast" (Oh my god we might say something that would cause a lawsuit.....please) and start acting like leaders. You want people to be involved, thank the lawyers for their comments, send them back to their offices, and use 21st century technology so everyone can get involved WITHOUT traveling to Memphis.
I'll tell you what's wrong with this union, we hide behind our lawyers and let them run the union . No more excuses!!!!

Not to mention that showing up for a recall effort is a horse of a different color.
Unhappy folks aren't showing up for meetings? Sorry to hear that but you don't have to be at the meeting to keep in touch with union bubbas. I bet I keep in better touch than you do.
Carry on? Do you call "On the Deck" too? Welcome aboard Admiral.
