"Did he : A) NOT think it through and realize only as long ago as NOV/DEC that it would cost the rest of the crew force in a slowing economy."
There were plenty of us back then asking the MEC what they were going to say if the economy slowed and all of the sudden there was an excess of pilots due to retro and the Age 60 change so the thought was out there for them to address. Whether they thought it through is another question altogether. It seemed to me that they were so caught up in defending their going against the vast majority of their members that there was no time for planning ahead if they got their way. I promise you though that the very scenario we are in now was presented to them and they knew it was possible. FWIW

The landing issue aside, we all know the senior RFO types can get landings. The RFO trips are senior because they are some of the best pairings we have, so you are saying we should allow the Company to save money by creating a new class of pilot and also give them the best pairings in the bid pack !
I have no sympathy for a senior RFO begging for landings, but come on, seniority does rule and these cocktail RFO trips are one of the best things we have remaining.

I'm sure that we have a few captains who would enjoy increased seniority and perhaps (I'm not so sure about this one) a little less pay, to just jet around the world, having no responsibility, except perhaps to make sure the coffee is black and hot, and that the fuel log times they compute match the expected.

Up until this month there was so many RFO lines out of LA that avoiding RFO lines had become fairly difficult. It seems that the company has figured out you can deadhead one leg from LAX almost anywhere in the world. Check the bidpacks.
Jan-Family Leave
Feb-RFO(shoot me)
Mar-Reserve first fly and 1 landings
I ended up pdo bumping someone.

JJ....when we were using Capt's as RF2's, the senior guys grabbed them and then pulled the same crap. Had a STN trip, very senior RF2 Capt called me at home and told me he needed the landings and oh, by the way, he'd need to be the PIC on the FP/R. Decorum prohibits me from posting my reply but he did take part of my advice and he dropped the trip and picked up something out of open time to satisfy his 3 in 3 requirement. I've never seen him so I am unable to accertain whether he was able to accomplish the other part of my advice which had to do with rearranging the position of various body parts.
Where do we find these guys, or do they just lose the big picture after too many am out and backs?
The PIC part is just the icing on the cake.

1969 was a great year I was 5 or 6 depending on the date. BoyCaptain is growing old, just not growing up, so he doesn't see what we all see.
Your enormous gut hair, and my hair. We all have our problems. But no combover here you are thinking of FF.
