That's what I thought. Guess we'll have to wait and see the details.

Places like UAL at one time had a specific bid position for "cruise RFO" (they called it something different). Think B scale wage, non landing qualified pilot, meaning they only get SIM landings. BAD precedence
Unless things have changed since I was there, don't we have "cruise RFO's?" These are the very senior F/O's who would always bid the RFO lines (probably to increase their frequent flier miles, or to just first class around the world), then, what always made me laugh, was when they would ask for a landing, claiming that they couldn't get any and would need to go back to the schoolhouse for their 3. Perhaps if FedEx instituted a cruise RFO position, these guys could realize their dream and that would open up some seat progression for guys who actually like to fly jets. Just a thought.

Well, if you are a 40 year old "Boy" I guess you should be buying lunch. Perhaps the "Boy" isn't talking about age. I'll have to ask your wife.

The landing issue aside, we all know the senior RFO types can get landings. The RFO trips are senior because they are some of the best pairings we have, so you are saying we should allow the Company to save money by creating a new class of pilot and also give them the best pairings in the bid pack !

I have no sympathy for a senior RFO begging for landings, but come on, seniority does rule and these cocktail RFO trips are one of the best things we have remaining.

I'm sorry, perhaps I missed the part of my previous post where I was saying that we should allow the company to save money by creating a new class of pilot. In fact, I didn't say that at all. What I did say was that we currently have a number of cruise pilots, or at least guys who are more than willing to suck up the best trips, commercial around the world, do almost no flying, and then still have the audacity to snivel a landing. Personally when I was captain, their request always fell on deaf ears, because I wouldn't give them my landing, and I felt even more strongly about NOT giving them my F/O's landing. I understand seniority fairly well, but still believe that if the company were to actually institute a "cruise pilot" program, that they'd get some takers, even with a new (and probably) reduced pay scale.

JJ....when we were using Capt's as RF2's, the senior guys grabbed them and then pulled the same crap. Had a STN trip, very senior RF2 Capt called me at home and told me he needed the landings and oh, by the way, he'd need to be the PIC on the FP/R. Decorum prohibits me from posting my reply but he did take part of my advice and he dropped the trip and picked up something out of open time to satisfy his 3 in 3 requirement. I've never seen him so I am unable to accertain whether he was able to accomplish the other part of my advice which had to do with rearranging the position of various body parts.

A pilot is expected to take proactive steps to maintain currency. A pilot who makes reasonable efforts to maintain currency will not be penalized, e.g., schedules simulator and it cancels, or has trip scheduled and it cancels.
Isn't this 'cruise pilot' stuff really all about this ( 4.I.6.c i-iv)? On the -11, the company can make the argument about an individual pilot not doing enough to stay current and not pay them. With the rumored system form on the 777, NOQ will likely happen on a regular basis for many and the company can't float the claim that they didn't try to stay current. Please, let's not start making it about creating a new lower paid position!
