UPS Contract--A Year Later

we’re glad we got the contract when we did but most of all that it's a "long term" contract - I'd hate for us to be negotiating again in 2-3 years again - I think the economy will still be pretty weak and it’d make negotiating really difficult... Just my worthless 1¢

I'm afraid that I am going to have to join that club with you my friend. These guys seem to think that they are going up to 150 an hour second year pay for free. They got a big raise, you and I got cost of living. Many were warned during the voting that captains would be picking up a LOT of open time if this was to be the deal. They'll be well paid FO's, but FO's for a while.

OTOH, many of the posters here
1. Were on property less than one year and did not get to vote on the CBA.
2. Several hundred F/O's were hired after the vote.
3. Estimate 90% of the under 60 F/O's in ANC were sent there as new hires or displaced there after they moved to SDF etc prior to age 65 which was a surprise to most everyone when it went fast through Congress.
4. As a junior Capt many factors causing me to slide back to right. Not one could be assigned to any F/O as causal. Primarily big collision of 65, market, and UPS budget cutting. (Just like the EFB's lying in the scrap heap of cost overrruns <g>)
Still see lemonade out of lemons,
1. I'll be senior F/O and get to bid vacation in summertime with my kids!
2. I'll learn intl (again) as F/O and not embarass myself as much to the experienced F/O's we have <g> when I hold left again.
3. Won't have to worry about logbooks for awhile <BG>
4. Glad F/O pay is high. Almost as much as when I was a new Capt a few years ago prior to the CBA ratification!

I understand that and am not pointing the finger at anyone specificcly, but there is a reason for the high FO pay that they will be getting as they roll off of probation. I'm sorry for them that some of what was expected as far as career progression will not happen due to circumstances outside of all our control. While I did not lose my seat, my career progression is slowed too. I'll be 5 years more junior than I thought I would be (as will most of us) for the rest of our careers. It happens. Furloughs, displacements, and stagnations are a part of this industry. I don't whine (much <G>) about my cost of living raise vs. 150 an hour second year fo end rates, I really don't enjoy hearing whining about my open time habits. When someone hits the streets, I'll stop. Til then, party on Garth!

It is in 2012 ... end of contract is what he meant. It is actually $148.80.
Don't worry Fish, by 2012 on year 6, you will be in the $158.12 range !
Almost $10 more than the 2nd year new guy.
Don't worry though, we will still be JUNIOR ... so you got that going for you.
Later,
