UPS Contract--A Year Later

As for "greed" .....If it's all about justice and the American way, guys like Roberto could contribute a portion of their additional windfall to the junior "disenfranchised" by their bounty. In fact, I suggested just that to him on the IPA forum, and he said it was fair.
I suspect you like a challenge, so if you can find where I said that, I'll change diapers for Freightpuppy while I'm here on my ONT layover <g>. Just bring that pup over to the Ayres before Monday night.
My memory, being that I'm on the cusp of senility, is not so good, but I can say with confidence I never said such a stupid thing. However, I may have said it would be fair for everyone who has been a captain for more than 10 years to contribute (I was one for 6 years).
I did say:
....I think discussions about greed are among the most fatuous, and are best left to politicians and demagogues.....
....Setting that aside, however, there are many good reasons for hanging around past 60, but regardless of the reason, the FE position is not a bad job. I characterize it as Sergeant's work at Colonel's pay.
But it is "just" a job, ........ (and I'll add now: a place to wait for better times, whether young or old)
That was not the case with the front seat, whether left or right. Even in the middle of the night, once up and awake, the job was enjoyable. The fact that the Captain's pay is twice that of the back is just a bonus.

is it really? each airline has greedy managers who will sell out labor in a second to make a bonus......
no matter what 121 company you work for you are screwed,,,UPS just makes the screwing a little later on down the road,,,,
I hope everyone hired in 2007 is saving for the inevitable.....

Case in point: Leo Mullen, former CEO of Delta was hired with zero airline experience back in '97. His claim to fame was as a mergers and acquisitions specialist in the banking industry. When he bailed from Delta a few short years later, he left with full benefits, and a suitcase full of cash. He didn't give a crap about Delta or any of his employees. I don't believe the same can be said about Eskew.
Second of all....what is inevitable?

Are you saying all 07 hires will end up on the panel, or in ANC? The latter is probably the more accurate. I would say our future new hires will be split between 757/767 FO's and DC-8 FE's until the 8's are gone.
I hope the future comes soon (new hires)

First of all, there is a huge difference between senior managers at Brown, and senior managers at say...my former employer, Delta. If you're a senior manager at Brown, there's a good chance you started your career by working the sort, driving a package car, or working in some junior management position. Brown doesn't normally hire outsiders into senior management positions. Most of these managers have years and years of service to UPS, and actually care about the company....not something I witnessed during my tenure at Delta.

Thanks Archie,
It is nice to see another junior guy who likes this company and its management (not all the individual managers, but the overall management team). No-things are not perfect, but I am sure a few Delta,TWA,United, etc guys have seen much worse. I am one of the ones caught up in the latest round of juggling, but I know the guys sitting in the board room where the real money is spent care and if you look at the compensation packages for the upper crust at UPS they are working for peanuts compared to other people at other companies. To boot--they want this company to succeed and so do I. Sometimes it just gets old hearing the complaining.
A young Navy Seal was awarded the Medal of Honor recently for diving on a grenade to save his friends. Just a reminder of the real world.

99% know this and is the reason the vast majority came to UPS. Not a junior/senior issue. We are not complaining that management is running us out of business like the pax carriers management. I know many who bypassed the DAL' and UAL's to come here/stay here (like me) because UPS management has many strengths. When I came here, UPS was privately owned, owned by managers and managed by owners. That was very appealing! Now they are public and many flight supervisors have had that incentive removed via lower stock and retirement packages. Employee satisfaction though is not a priority for management. They see a vast force of hourly employees with high turnover, thus control to maintain performance is a priority.
I have turned in many observations as J asks, am conscientious on every flight to take care of our customers, save my employer money, only to see written suggestion/event reports discarded with a "Thanks" and never see the change for the cost savings. We complain about that type of mismanagement and it is fair. Doesn't make me want to be somewhere else, I have learned to accept that element of my employment. BTW, I do the same for my beloved Navy too. I want UPS and the Navy both to do better <g>

Say again?? Like my math teacher used to tell me: "show me your work." I'm only quoting what I heard at 3 roadshows during the contract negotiations.....
