FDX- On Non-Member list by mistake???
A friend just showed up on Positive Rate's Nonmember Subject to Agency Shop list. So, I give him a call to see what's up. He had no idea, never received a call, letter, e-mail, etc. His dues are deducted automatically from his paycheck.
He has tried to call the MEC office with no luck (after hours). Any ideas out there? How can they make it up to him for slinging his name through the mud?

What's his name?
Just kidding. Have him check his paystubs to make sure dues are still being deducted. Log into crewroom.alpa.org and check "My Alpa" to see if you're in "good standing". Call 'em again in the morning ... probably an admin error. Let us know what caused it.

If he shows up on the non-members on dues check off-- however wrongly--there's really not much mud he was drug through. If not, that's another story.
As much as I like to see the MEC office eat crow and admit errors, especially things like this, I'm not sure having them say something along the lines of, "Due to administrative error we inadvertently placed <insert name here> on the non-members list. <Name> is a member in good standing and we regret the error", is really a good thing. All a lot of people will remembers is <insert name here>? Isn't he a non-member?
The final remote possibility is that he/she worked at an airline that has a checkered past and that can raise red flags at National (this is uncommon but has happened), in those cases it just takes a bit longer to get processed is all and that's a good reason to be wary of non-members lists. Of course that presumes he/she is a relative new hire too.

It is the Agency Shop list, not the Dues Checkoff one. He worked at Delta for one year previously before getting furloughed and joining us.
I, for one, would like them to send out a retraction.

Previous experience of mine, another airline... "alpa Fire, aim, shoot! SHOW ME THE MONEY!" Should be their motto. Not in our interest mind you, their own.
I was furloughed and when I was recalled after 10 months, once recalled I was a member in bad standing, because they figured I owed them 10 months of back dues. Because of their error, I was unable to vote on an issue at that company and was never apologized to or not even an oops!
I still believe we need them. They just don't have the big picture most of the time and don't seem to care about the individual. And on an issue like smearing an individuals name, they should check and double check before they mess with someones life!
Good luck on the retraction.
