Flew a Valsan from DFW to Dallas Love for maintenance, empty! What a friggin' ride that was. The Captain laughed his a$$ of at me as I was standing on the yoke trying to get it to not go thru 6K on departure....

Fondly remember my first Valsan takeoff....several flights out of right seat IOE, empty, Great Falls to Spokane, winter (max pwr) and a 30kt headwind. Oh yeah, the capt was getting his line check.
Wonderful ride!

I had a front-end DH to Millington once (yep, NQA) to return an empty VALSAN back to the Planet. Our clearance was runway heading maintain 2000. I had to start pushing on the yoke to level off as we were still rotating! Block time: 17 min. Pay: 6 CH. Best trip I've flown yet!

Yeah, Valsan was a company that did the big motor (JT8D-217) conversion on the 727. Unfortunately, they're out of business now. While Fedex got quite a few (12,) numerous other companies also got them. Before Fedex, I worked for a charter/ cargo firm that had 2 of them. Sun Country at one time had a few of them.
