Last month, I was trying to trade a trip for an airport standby in order to (hopefully) commute home a day earlier.

The computer wouldn't accept the trade and I realized the only way to make it happen would be to drop the trip and then pickup the airport stby.

Of course, that's a gamble if you don't know what's in the que and don't know when the requests will be processed.

I called the scheduler and explained it.

He first confirmed nothing was in the que and then offered to stay on the line with me while I inputed the drop and pickup, and then he "processed" those requests immediately.

I watched all the little electrons flow within seconds before my very eyes.

In the end a very, very positive experience with scheduling.

(....yes, I actually just typed that without any sarcasm intended!)
I have done this same thing twice. Like you said the big problem is knowing if anyone is in the trying to grab that sweet XTRA before you drop to get it. However, not all schedulers are cut from the same cloth (the first point of this thread), and there should not be a que ( the second point of this thread).

I think we are all in agreement.

She is a legend. She's worked in almost every department at FedEx and has done poorly at each and every job she's ever had. That according to folks who know her. Yet, because of circumstances, she remains entrenched. As has been said before, when you call CRS, and you hear "Crew Scheduling, L___e, your next move should be "Click." Unless they've changed their on/off times, they usually start a new shift at about 6PM and again at 6AM. Call back then. I used to do that when I heard "Crew Scheduling, This is Andre." CLICK.
