Whereabouts in FL do you live? What is your current domicile and how is the commute?

Nice avatar by the way. That's Buffetts Hemisphere Dancer in mine. The airlines are actually a backup option for me if I can't get Buffett to hire me as his Copilot.
Right now, the odds of being hired by Buffett as copilot are better than the odds of being hired by UPS and assigned MIA !

I live in the Tampa area and am based in ONT. The commute isn't bad as I try to stay away from the SWA served cities for the ticket prices. I try to fly trips as close to the Midwest as I can. I go to YVR once in a while, but those tickets are okay. However, if many guys displace to ONT, I will probably be back on reserve.

I met one of JB's pilot in TPA one day. Good luck winning that lottery.

Like Swedish was saying, I also live in Tampa and commute to ANC:

St Pete Airport from my house: 19 miles
ANC Airport from my house: 3900 miles

I only have a year's seniority with UPS and know there are individuals senior to me that would also like to bid Miami, but are based elsewhere.

If I did bid into MIA I would likely hold a line that would start at 9pm in MIA and fly 2-3 legs a night, sit a sort somewhere, and then return to MIA at 630am. This would entail commuting from Tampa to Mia in the afternoon and then return home before lunch just to commute back down that afternoon or get a crashpad in Miami and spend 14-16 nights a month down there.

I have driven the drive and it really isn't that bad. 292 miles from my front door to the passenger terminal takes me about 4 1/2 hrs on the road. However, doing it 5 days a week, is like chewing on tin foil.

Even though I'm based in ANC, I only spend 2-4 nights a month up there and was very fortunate to be a line holder from day 1.

PIE flying is senior and it would be 5-7 years before I could bid that. One could almost guess that in 5-7 years in ANC, I would be approaching single digit seniority as an F/O...but that's just a guess with wishful thinking attached to it.

Good Luck,

FF

My buddy flew for Buffett until a few years ago when he got tired of dealing with him; he said JB is a jerk to his pilots.
So he finally quit and now flies for a fractional company; he said life is much better now - so maybe flying for JB is not that good of a lottery win after all, huh?
