No furloughs at UPS as a result of displacement?

Freight pup,
That's the problem, we have such a good contract overall relative to any other in our industry that we tend to get fat, dumb, and happy. When's the last time a guy complained about his paycheck or QOL? Heck many of us even volunteered to commute 10 hours away to increase our pay (Anchorage base).
There's no way a furlough announcement by the co. tomorrow would get the majority here to stop feeding from the OT and JA trough.

If Hillary or Obama is elected, the next day the birds will be singing louder, the skies will clear and the recession will be over immediately. There will be dancing in the streets in the rest of the world and the dollar will triple along with my taxes. Both much of the recession and the fear mongering at UPS is a manipulative tool as a means to an end, albeit for different reasons. At UPS every department was likely tasked to cut costs 10% and have a hit list in print by the next day regardless of impact on the true overall health of the company. And they are still in process of byotch slapping the IPA for trying to organize manglers.

While we realize the November elections will have an impact on our lives, APC forums is not the proper venue for political discussion and is not allowed by the TOS:
Topics Not for Discussion
There are currently NO forums that provide a venue for discussing politics or religion. While DreamLaunch Media Ltd. and Airline Pilot Central embrace the diversity the world has to offer, these subjects often are very emotional and there are many different views. In our experience the wide range of views and emotions rarely contribute to a harmonious online community or beneficial contributions to the piloting profession.

I think you are wrong. The furlough announcement last time did alot to galvanize the IPA. You clearly must have observed that. What is different? Don't give me the contract argument, we are all long on history. When the chips are down, the IPA (which is simply you and me and 2995 of our closest friends) responds. Think of the signing bonus collected for the deceased IPA pilots we collected to pay their families, think of the MIA F/O with cancer that folks chipped in to assist. Leather jackets spontaniously purchased for new hires.
We always have those feeding at the trough. That is likely to continue to eternity, except as demonstrated during the furlough announcement. I prefer the "it benefits me" line as a few tell me. It is honest, the "I've got two exwives and three vacations homes" just makes one look silly. I have no problem with some folks picking up OT who have legitimate family medical/sick leave/FMLA issues which are valid. There are valid issues.
Dog Breath, your avatar drives me nuts <bg> I squashed at the lousy thing the first time.

I have a call into Rick D., and among other topics of discussion will be why specifically IPNN mentioned the F-word. If it was due to concerned calls from junior folks, I for one would like to see the issue directly addressed by Bob Miller to give the junior the most accurate and honest evaluation possible. Having been furloughed twice I know that fore-knowledge is of utmost importance in "career management" (aka: getting a consistent paycheck). If indeed UPS is contemplating furlough (which I sincerely doubt) we as a group, and those directly affected should have as much time to get ducks (not Houston Mill's ducks BTW) in a lrow. Military guys could start trying to line up guard gigs, civilians could start sending out feelers for corporate gigs and the union leadership could start the drum beat which would dry up some of the JA/OT pick-up, putting at least some bad taste in the company's mouth, and perhaps stopping it in it's tracks. Regardless of the (cue "Battle Hymn of The Republic" music) whole "fairness and justice" song and dance of the great geezer debate, if it weren't for them, this wouldn't even be an issue. But at least they get to buy another vacation home and boat, so at least we've got that going for us...which is nice.

I strongly suggested that Bob Miller do whatever research is warranted, and make a more definitive statement to the junior membership instead of incomplete remarks by the surrogates on IPNN. Rick also said that the union will be enhancing the communication system to better serve the membership. I am going to at least leave Miller a message urging him to act.

TAXES, a funny thing
My taxes actually went up under Bush! Playing by the rules, being a good hard working citizen and raising healthy little tax payers to subsidize those at both ends of the economic spectrum is the middle class way of life. I wish I could get one of those checks to buy an IPOD!
Did I just say that out loud?
BTW- Commute from SEA to ANC as difficult from other lower 48 cities? Frequency looks pretty good from SEA, Just curious about those living the dream with that commute..
Thanks
