I'm back with some thoughts on UPS
I know I decreed that I would post no more, but that video by J. Barnes has me wanting to pull my hair out for staying here. What a crock of sheet. If Priority 3's are charged with aiding the captain for security and safety purposes how is that not being a crewmember and thus accruing time towards 30/7?
What kind of company would go to the links that UPS has just to make life suck for their employees? Buy a GD ticket for your crewmembers to get to Europe. I recently saw the "accomodations" of our 767s and it is pathetic that UPS would expect a pilot to deadhead on that airplane. It truly exposes the lack of human respect our company has.
I hope and pray this makes the rest of our pilot group as angry as I am. We should wait this thing out and not cave in. The NMB will eventually run out of excuses and be forced to release us. If we are going to be treated like sheet we better get paid for it!!

What kind of idiot would say something like that on camera?????????
So let me get this straight - bumping priority 3 jumpseaters has the potential of diminishing the level of cockpit safety, and the captain's explanation must be compelling, and is only valid if an emergency situation exists, or by the presence of these crew members is not in the best interest of aviation safety? Well, since he goes to say that UPS is committed to maintaining the highest level of safety, security, and regulatory compliance, this rational would lead me to believe all flights without them are less safe and should not leave without an additional crewmember to enhance the level of "safety" to the highest which we are committed to!
This guy is so stunningly full of bull**** I am in awe. Again, the perfect "ready, fire, aim" approach management chooses to take at UPS. Attempting to coerce professionals by enforcing "safety" is pretty ignorant considering the HUGE potential on how this could backfire. Their level arrogance has again equaled their level of ignorance.
Let's all look forward to a "safe" 2006!

Jumpseats
You can scream and yell all you want, but the die has been cast. You will have a week or so to digest this and so all the crewmembers are aware of the Must Read Bulletin. After that, pity the poor guy or gal who violates the Must Read Bulletin. It will go directly to the FAA and I do not believe any pilot wants to deal with that thorny bush. First there is the issue of violating an FAR, then there may be TSA involvement. On top of all that, the pilot could be charged with "impeding air commerce" (a criminal act).

Simply said, a captain should take a jumpseater, if he is otherwise qualified for the flight (certificate and good behavior). We had a captain in San Juan who bumped two Priority 3's and took two offline jumpseaters (Priority 8 American Airlines). That makes no sense at all.

My intention is not to harrass. It is to inform you of the plain truth. Believe it or not, I am more on your side that mine. I am mostly passing on what many people in management feel. I do not feel that way in most cases. I am only telling you of the resolve that I hear. Take it for what it is worth.
