How do you propose eliminating carryover? Move empty planes back to base on Sundays; D/H crews home on Sunday and fresh crews out on Monday; have the bid week start on Sunday (which helps a little). All are more costly to the company and don't benefit the senior folks that hold carryover and run the union. Making a bid period last two months would halve the carryover, but some don't like to think that far in advance.

Breath slowly, did not suggest eliminating carryover. Just not reward guys for bidding carryover by allowing them to cherry pick all the good trips. Any CIC after BLG would be treated as general makeup.

FWIW I have decided I will only bid carryover, since my training was canceled. Got to make up the pay somehow.

A reserve that has carryover should never be able to get a primo trip with a CIC reserve line. The only CIC that a reserve should get is more reserve if they want all of those extra hours of pay every month. It is sad that a MEM reserve can get paid for almost every day of the month and a commuter struggles to get a schedule. Where does seniority come in when a reserve holder can get better trips to someone senior?

Geez, if the reserve with carryover is such a good deal and you are senior enough to hold it, I don't know, maybe bid it?

Senior people sometimes bid reserve. I bid it over a crappy line or VTO's. Or if I just Don't feel like working that month.

Sean, one of the block rep's has indicated that's the best way to get what you really want is bid backwards. If you want off the first two week... ask for the second two weeks off... say's it works every time.

So how do they allow that kind of performance to go unchallenged from management in ANC. "He's a well known problem but we can't do anything about him" isn't exactly an acceptable answer from a forward thinking company. Is it the pilot's job to monitor the performance of a scheduler? Who is the one that can provide the answer to a continual problem month after month?

I see why you have the reputation that you have.
Maybe you missed it. I am a commuter and do not want to sit reserve in MEM. The system should be fair to all, not just those that live in MEM. And, maybe we should live within our means and stop working 25 days out of 30.

This is a problem that can be mitigated by e-mailing the other VTO line holders and offering swaps.

As to being outraged about this guy and his longevity....Let's just say I'm not surprised. The answer from higher ups is probably, "When you are senior enough, don't bid the VTOs"

So, maybe since the junior guys got this great reserve deal...And, are hosing us with this carryover thing...We should hose them on this next contract. You know, make the more senior trips pay more, or something.

Default Another aspect of the CIC

I had a trip dropped due to a 1 -7. Didn't realize that when you started at 7pm, it counted as an entire day, but alas, now I know when you are not on Reserve, the "24 hours off" is a calendar day. We all know when you are on Reseve, "24 hours off" literally means 24 hours off at the Scheduler's whim.....I digress.

Went into the View Add, asked for 8 different trips; received one. Guess what? Still below monthly guarantee. So, if we are throwing ideas out, how about trying to bring line-holders up to guarantee when trips are dropped due to legality issues?

It is disheartening to see a 4 week bid-month and guys on reserve, with CIC, holding 86 - 90 hours, while a line-holder suffers below guarantee. Guess it is my own fault, I can hold reserve w/ c/o, but I do not live in MEM and bidding reserve doesn't make a lot of sense (until now).
