Sorry. I don't see FDX buying DHL airplanes. Unless there are some 757s, A300s, DC10s or MD11s in the mix.

FDX might bid to make UPS pay more....

How will taking the Astar and Polar pilots affect FedEx's staffing? Since FedEx management said they were overstaffed, how will the integration work out?

The airlines/pilot side may not be affected since ABX and ASTAR are not owned by DHL proper. If FedEx were to buy the American DHL operation, wouldn't that mean they would be buying the hub operations and operate current FDX jets into those hubs?

I think we are all confusing DHL with their ACMI companies. DHL does not have any pilots in their US operations. Everything is contracted out to ACMI carriers. I'm not sure what purchasing DHL's U.S. business would give us other than removing some competition. Most of their delivery routes are contracted out too.

They just threw a bunch of money at Polar but that lift could be used anywhere and not just in ILN. ASTAR guys are negotiating a contract so maybe this is a made up story to force a substandard agreement on you.

It's fun to speculate but it's all business and I'll believe it when it's "painted purple".

I just peeked at the Astar and ABX websites...and they seem to imply that they are independent companies providing lift to DHL. No need for integrating when they are not a part of DHL.

With that being said, a better rumor to get started would be that FedEx is buying DHL's share in Polar...

I keed, I keed...

I too think this story is WA speculation. No actual DHL US operations (other than "independent" contractors) other than ground stuff.

BTW, DHL is willing to suffer a loss in the US to maintain a presence. If they leave entirely it will likely hurt their global Ops, IMHO. Globally, DHL is not as behind the 8 ball as they are here in the US. And they will do all they can think of to keep their international operation humming.

But I enjoy fantasizing about wild speculation. And this is a doozy.
