MSP UPS Terminal
I'm not familiar with MSP, and I'm trying to jumpseat on UPS from there. Anybody familiar enough to give a good explanation on how to get from the main terminal (NWA, not the little one) to UPS??? Thanks.

There is a shuttle to the Mesaba hangar I believe, but in the winter it is definitely not walkable to UPS/FedEx from there.
Good luck.

you might want to ask this in the "cargo" section
Usually a cab is the best way to get to the cargo operations. Good luck finding a cabbie that wants to get you there on a short ride/actually knows how to get there.

There is not a FedEx shuttle. Cab ride from the main terminal will run you about 20 bucks. Getting a cab to go to UPS/FedEx is no problem, getting a cab to come over there to pick you up can be another story. The cab drivers do not like the short drive, oh well.

The hangar you are referring to is no longer owned by Mesaba (dumped it in Ch. 11) and therefore no shuttle service there either.

Fastest way is to get a cab from the lindberg terminal. Take 494 west to 24th ave Exit Right. Follow the road (it winds around the airport, past the SunCountry hangar etc...then take a right on Air Cargo Road (pretty sure of the name). Go through the tunnel (under the taxiway and RW 35)and then take the first right after the tunnel. You will see the UPS processing center. There is a guard shack that you must go through. You may have to be escorted to the pilot louge, so have the guard call someone, or arrange it ahead of time by calling the UPS jumpseat line to set something up (if possible). By far the easiest way would be to meet the crew of the flight at the guardshack and go from there...hope this helps.

You would be supprised I think if you ask for there cabbie ID # if they are not going to take you.

They run shuttles to the airport every half hour from the lobby, about a 10-12 minute ride regular traffic. Grey vans. The UPS crews have regular rides from the Hilton on the Hilton shuttle Monday-Thursday about 1+15 before departure time/. I know the night times are 1945, 2015, and I think 2030 or 2045. Just ask Hilton "what times do you run to UPS?' In the morning, we usually get a ride from the gateway to the Hilton on 'Airport Taxi' at 612-721-0000.
The other technique is to tell the taxi driver at the terminal you are doing a 'short run'. At some airports, they tell the taxi 'boss' and the driver is allowed to come back to front of line because it is a short run (low dollars). At least you tried to protect the driver and they often appreciate the effort to get them back to a higher fare.
Have taken some AWAC folks to PHL, etc.
UPS is at 2645 Cargo Rd. Call 612-243-4777 if running a bit late, crew won't leave early if they know a JS is coming along. (Most of us check). They want the JS checked in 30 minutes prior to departure, (when front seaters are heading out to the plane)
