This is how to go out!

The reality is that this is now the law of the land and not every crew member that benefits from it had anything to do with the actual passage of the Act. So why should we "tax" someone for doing something that is not against any Union edict, not against the law, or they had anything to do with. All your suggestion does is attempt to put another divider between dues paying members of this Union. Sorry, I can't see any positive coming from your idea...

Since you obviously had no plans to upgrade; and will only be slightly inconvinced by a couple more dudes in front of you in the bid pack, I can see where this could be speculative. Me, I now have to bid DC-10 back seat so I can hope to get excessed. So yes I will be in training before 2011. But it will cost me a lot of money and a lot more quality of life.
Again it is perspective, looking down at the peons, it could be speculation. Not so looking up.

Of course, I could also blame it on people who have had a full career with Uncle Sugar, are drawing a retirement check, and are taking up a pilot slot at Fedex as some sort post-retirement hobby. After all, when I started in the airlines 19 years ago, no one got hired after retiring from the military. They changed things on me. That would be about as fair as blaming the guys nearing or over age 60 for your problems.

Huh??
Hobby? Are you serious? From your avatar I figured you would know something about mil retirement pay after 20, but I guess not. Seems according to you we could be sitting on a beach in the Caribbean eating caviar and drinking champagne. You must be thinking of some other military, not "Uncle Sugar's"...

This thread follows the same tired pattern.
Young guys complain about being junior.
Senior guys come out to set'em straight.
Each side thinks they have taught the other something
Then we do it again next week.
All I know is we bend over backwards fighting for benefits for the most senior. We prioritize things so those issues that do not support the most senior don't make it out of committee. We modify legislation, VEBA, LOA, etc. Yes, I know that is what unions do. And unions can make themselves an endangered species due to the weight of those at the top. Yes, Yes, I know we are ratifying such efforts with votes. But we didn't get to vote on our union's stance on age 65, did we??
Here we have another chance for the senior guys to come out and say they will do something meaningful for the younger guys. But this time it's just in case something bad happens. Someting more substantial than a generic "shared" sacrifice statement of intent. If the most junior are the ones getting the shaft, why do any initiatives to help have to be "shared"?
All I hear is silence. Except for the high 5's from guys who decided not to retire at 60.

Actually, I have all MEM WBs at 100%. I thought I would make it on the last bid, and obviously didn't. I probably won't make it on the current bid. But whether it is this summer, or the 3-5 years that PPP pulled from his rear, it is still speculation as to when it occurs, and definitely not the fault of some 60 yr old who just wants to work 2 more years so he gets his full 25.

Its ok, you can come out and say you are glad the rule changed.
Sure its over, but the fallout will haunt us for quite some time. I hope you are as gracious when our retirement plans are gutted.
I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't bet against it.

Find a post where I blame anybody. Simply pointing out that the age change has a very direct negative impact on a lot of people (or at least one). I suppose if I had 17 years in years in with fred I could sit around with my head up my arse and pretend it didn't.
PS
Wouldn't change any of my fighter time for 10,000 hours of WB capt pay.
PSS
How does the guy who put 20+ in elsewhere then starts at the bottom affect your senority?

PS - haven't been sitting around with my head anywhere. This is my 3rd airline in those 19 years.
