Default One FDX New Hire 14 JAN 08

Well, if we are about to furlough or lower BLG why did we just have a new hire? I'm sure he's coming from the schoolhouse, but he's still a new hire. Wonder which FDA he's going to?

Does he still have recall rights to the schoolhouse or corporate department once PC furloughs him?

I am happy for him. But ****? Talking of furlough and reduction in BLG and hiring at the same time?

You guys might think I'm crazy, but I don't think anyone has really "talked" about furloughs.

I think PC mentioned the F-word to dispell rumor and to address the DC10 excess bid and the substantial overstaffing that will come after it for 12 months. IMHO, With 08-01 continuing to stuff more bodies into CA and possibly FO slots, we really can't be headed for a furlough.

Who knows why DW talked about FedEx's furloughes in the '70s or why he told us to have our finances in order/live within your means. Could have been just general advice. Could have been an attempt to get the focus off his recent age 65/LOA record.

Default Honestly

Maybe he mentioned that because the trolls come on here for intell. We already know that they found out about housing deposits from us "proponents of hysteria".

The first time I heard any mention of the "F" word was when some folks on APC went spinning up "what-ifs" in regard to manning FDA's and the confluence of events between over-60s and our own assessment of being overmanned.

Perhaps PC mentioned these things because rumours had started to circulate already.....(by the way, you know a rumour is a really juicy one when you start it, and a little while later it comes full circle and is told back to you)

I am firmly convinced that we wont see anything less than the 68/85 contractually, and you won't see a furlough.....I went to the meetings this weekend and today, and there was a firm stance from our MEC followed by a good thought pattern and rationale why it won't happen and if attempted, what their course of action will be. For the record, I buy it....

I'm not a Koolaid drinker by any stretch, I just think at a certain point, suspicion and paranoia are just simply suspicion and paranoia.

Agreed. The speculation and fear mongering has gotten out of control.

I don't think there is any chance of a furlough; I hope the new guy on the bottom of the seniority list doesn't even know that APC exists. If he did he'd be selling his house and cars right now and would have the unemployment paperwork already filled out.

Because that was a term of his deal when he went to training or the corporate flight department. He had a preassigned start date.

I remember some American, Delta, and United pilots that were saying the same thing about 10 years ago. If there is a world recession, (unlikely, but possible) then there could be furloughs. Corporate always tries to paint a rosy picture to keep the investors happy and the "F" word will always scare a bunch of them off, so it will not be used until it has to. I agree with DW on this one. Better keep an eye on your finances and keep your strike fund solvent in case you need it for an "F" fund.

He's a pro instructor coming from the schoolhouse, not the corporate side. (In response to Gunter).
