Agency Shop Question
Can anybody clarify Agency Shop for me as it now stands at FedEx? Who was grand fathered? Who wasn't? My understanding is that if you were a member when the new contract was signed and then subsequently decided to quit the union, you would still be obligated to pay your dues just like any new hires. (This post stems from a conversation that I had a few days ago with a fellow pilot; he stated that you wouldn't have to, as those folks who were members when the contract was signed were "grandfathered".) Thanks.

The grandfathered, are non-members as of 8/26/2006(or around there). They are not required to pay anything. Dues, maint. fee, etc.
All others, current members at the time and all new hires are not required to join...But, are required to pay a maint. fee. Which is currently the same as our dues. 1.95%

The maintenance fee is supposed to exclude items such as lobbying and the like ... things not related to contract enforcement and negotiations etc. And I'm sure that it doesn't. :P
