Default Vacation 101?

I have 7 days of vacation beginning 3/10 & I can only hold RA in right side of the Boeing. I want to maximize my April 15th paycheck, what are my options for biding a schedule for March?

Slide your vacation (up to 5 days either direction) to cover the days off that you want. Expand your vacation to 10 days(the max for a 7 day block).

This will give you max days off, max vacation burn for the month, and max days available to fly more if you are inclined.

Vacation won't do anything to increase your paycheck over whatever BLG you can hold. The only thing you can do is increase your number of days off. Since Mar is a 5 week month, you owe the company 19 days of either vacation or reserve. The most you will be paid is RLG (barring carryover.) At the very least, you will get 7 days of vacation and have to work 12 days of reserve. Since a Res day on the Boeing is going for 4:32 of late, that 7 days will cost you 33:44 out of your vacation bank. If you want more days off, you can expand your vacation to 10 days. You will only serve 9 days of reserve, and your bank will get charged 45:20. The only way to increase your paycheck is the tried and true, pick up makeup trips or bid Feb lines with Mar carryover.

or, go with the delayed gratification of a Dec 31st vacation buyback and don't expand your vacation.

the only way to up the pay is to work more R days,
or CIC of R days to try and pick up some trips, but, again that is working more days at straight time in addition to working the reserve days for da man

is there any other option right now OTHER than picking up extra at "straight time" (regular makeup) - for regular line guys that is?

I was under the impression that since we're so overmanned, there's very little (if any) VLT/DFT, etc. going on out there.

what else is there besides straight time to make extra?

K-

Is there a good reason to wait till 31Dec to get your extra money? I max out my vacation, get more days off, get that money in my pocket now(for not working) and then I can work more if I want more money...which I get now, as opposed to the end of the year.

Anybody else have anything on this theory?

Are you sure you're with FDX?

Um, yeah. For how long I don't know...furlough threats and all.

Tell me what I'm missing, cause I'd like to un-screw anything I'm doing wrong...but I think my theory works for me.

In my opinion...You're not doing anything wrong. I was just making a sarcastic remark about FDX pilots and vacation buy back.

The number of guys and the hours of vacation sold back every year are incredible.

Selling back vacation is a great idea, if you want to loan that money to the company for the year. You're flying trips that month that you don't have to, in essence getting paid for them on the 31st of the year.
