To begin implementation of the new policy, the Board authorized an immediate increase in the amount of funds available for stock repurchases from approximately $2 billion to $10 billion.

You don't say ...

Later, Brown CC

How about this rumor posted 8 Oct 07?

Rumors are going around hot and heavy these days about a UPS purchase of Atlas Holdings. We've been hearing such things for years, but given our current equiptment and pilot bind, it does seem to make a modicum of sense. Supposedly, according to a management pilot, UPS has a team over there now doing a due dillegence check.

Jan 10 (Reuters) - United Parcel Service, Inc (UPS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on
Thursday sold $4.0 billion in a three-part global debt sale,
said market sources.

Although nothing is ever certain, generating this amount of cash is certainly for a large capital investment. The time lag from aircraft orders to delivery is such that to successfully capitalize on the ever increasing global cargo market requires plans and actions to be executed in a deliberate manner. In addition, interest rate reductions also encourage growth and investment. I suspect existing airframes owned by another company will be targeted.

This is perfect.

FedEx is forecasting gloom and doom while UPS is getting ready to take over the world.

I'm glad for you guys, but I would have thought what is good for Brown is usually good for Purple.

I thought that DHL (German Post Office) owned a 49% state in the Polar/Atlas company. Would UPS buy the 51% stake and kick DHL to the curb.............. Now that is what I call "takin care of business". Why compete on price and service when you can just buy the lift and kill the competion.

P.S. does anyone know of someone willing to sponsor me at UPS.......

Everyone needs to remember that these are just ideas and rumors. Eventually, whatever their plan is will come out. Us pilots will be the last to know. Something will happen, be it just stock buyback or a purchase of some sorts (trucking company, planes, etc.) Just kick back and relax...

Sadly, until I grow limbs evolve out of the pool, kicking back and relaxing is my only choice.
