That is an interesting point. I had forgotten how high voluntary membership had become.

High PR price to pay for that extra 1-2%. Or, maybe was it just added to ensure the $$ inflow was guaranteed?

The sad thing is we didn't get any extra 1-2%, since all the non members were grandfathered anyway.

We gained NOTHING, but it cost us a much more pizzed-off and splintered crew force.

You bet we need new leadership in our MEC.

Our only hope at unity before the next negotiations start is a completely new MEC. The sooner the better.

I can only think of three people who might not agree with this.

Grandfathering these jokers was a complete travesty as well. You are right we gained very little from this.

That was in part due to the Optimizer that Mooke (sp) put in place. It became the overiding issue.

Now with all the latest hoopla there would be many that would quit. The problem is how do you get them re-engaged? As a member they have a vested interest if things do not happen the way they want. They can't just throw their sucker in the mud and go home.

Why do you think they backdated the start of agency shop? So a bunch of cheapo's couldn't bail when the contract was signed.

Don't know what legal issues where involved in the Grandfathering of a very few individual's. But, what it did get us is any new poeple trying to get by on the cheap. The number of non paying members will slowly go down to zero. (maybe a few years later now!)

You pay taxes every month to Uncle Sam. Do you like everything the Goverment does? Not defending ANYONE there, just an analogy.

The Leadership now needs to go. Looks like a good start with our new block reps....
