Any Advise on flying turboprop over jet
im a f/o on a saab 340 turboprop, i have 6 more months before my contract is up but could upgrade in a year from now. wondering if anyone knows if i should leave to another regional for the jet time or stay for the upgrade? what time is more important and how much does it matter?

it is more important to get some PIC time in, especially if it is in a larger turboprop over 20000# and requires a type rating.
Reason is, it is easier to get jet time than PIC time. With a few exceptions you ususally have to wait sometime to upgrade, while getting SIC jet time right away is not that hard if you already have some experience built up.
IMO the airlines are less impressed with RJ time nowadays. What they are more interested in is what kind of captain you will be. I know that they like to see some jet time/FMS/EFIS experience on a resume, but the difference between a regional pilot flying either a jet or turboprop seems to have blurred somewhat.
In short, get the PIC, then get the jet time, and IMO that will provide the best opportunities for you.

I agree with everyone above.
Look at the minimums of UPS, FedEx, JetBlue and SWA. They all require PIC turbine....doesn't matter if it's jet or turboprop. Notice none of them have a Jet SIC requirement.
Good luck!
P.S. You will miss the Saab....I would do anything to hop back into it again

thanks for everyones advise, this has been a tough call to make with so many regional jet airlines hiring. i love the saab but i just didnt know how important not having an fms and flying more complex aircraft mattered. my final goal is Fedex or UPS!
