I understand that there is no max blg. What I was saying is that the way I read the contract, if they lower the min BLG to 48/60 that it has to be the contractual floor for all seats. They can't just say, 'OK the floor on the DC-10 and the 727 is 48/60, but everyone else stays at normal levels.' Seems designed to make sure everyone 'enjoys' in the pain a bit and to make it more difficult to get to a furlough logistically for the company.

No position's available
The only "Right" thing to do with this overmanning is to politely teel all the over 60 guy's that we just don't have the position's available for you to come back to....Sorry-you'll just have to retire on your 30+ years of aquired pension. No other airline in this industry is allowing any pilot over 60 to come back to flying status unless there are position's available. But not here at Fedex. We again are reinventing the wheel. Thank's to our MEC leadership, they again screwed us by ignoring our wishes of NOT supporting the age 65 rule change. The vote was 65% to 35% AGAINST the change. But our leadership decided, (again) on their own, to ignore your wishes and do what they felt like instead. So now Lewis and the boy's can all come back for another 15 minute's of fame at the expense of the junior guy's.
I say...Go home and retire and enjoy your grandkid's before you kick the bucket. These junior guy's have families to support, home's to pay for, college tuition's to save for food to buy....etc...etc.
Need I say more?????

Not saying that I was for the rule change, but let's not confuse the facts. There was not a vote on 65, only a poll which also asked other questions as well. If we are now going to say that this poll is the same as a vote, then we should all congratulate President Obama.

British Airways requires all of their pilots to retire at age 55, even though the maximum age in the EU is 65. Their pension and retirement benefits are designed around that assumption.
In a different vein, GE requires all their upper level management, including the President and CEO to retire at 65, no hanging on until 70+ as some companies allow.
Looks to me like a company can have maximum retirement ages that are below federal mandated maximums if they choose. IOW, FedEx could possibly create company requirement that all their pilots retire at age 60 if the company chose.

You're right, it was just a poll for all ALPA members...not a vote. However, ALPA had an overwhelming 'NO' response for AGE 65. What type of S%@# union does the exact opposite of the majority membership's desire. I think ALPA national has one foot in the grave... your membership dues would go to much better use w/ an independent union. For example, at NWA we have a great group at the local level. It's just ALPA national leadership that needs to hit the road. How do the FedEx guys feel about ALPA national?

If your guys hadn't stabbed Woerth in the back and supported him like you should have, we'd be a lot better off now.
