Question UPS 2008 Hiring

Does anyone know if UPS has any definitive hiring plans for 2008?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This has been addressed in many threads; in fact, many threads started by you. This is getting really old.

I heard from a good source, within the last 2 weeks, that UPS has about 55 in the pool and they will hire about 50 next year, beginning late in the year (fall.)

Good luck to all and Happy and healthy new year!!!

Straight from our director of airline operations, Rick Barr during a recent safety meeting earlier this month in Anchorage at the Marriott hotel.

Hiring in 2008 will be based on the age 65 rule. If the age limit is raised UPS would expect to hire no more than 50 crew members. That number would also be based on any displacement bid!!!

You won't make it, so don't worry. I doubt you're even a 747 driver.

Segataki,

I remember hearing the same info.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder if there is any merit in the union or the company in holding one of our famous "straw polls", mock bids, or the like to see just what the "plans" of the pilots that are approaching 60/over 60.

Again thinking aloud, do we think all pilots will continue past 60 ? Will some consider bypass ? If a buyout would be offered, would any take it ?

We've kicked around a few sets of numbers on the m.board about who is "newly eligible" for continued employment (for lack of a better phrase), but if we had a handle of who wants to stay and who has had enough of this rat race, maybe our hiring plans would have more accuracy.

Just thinking out loud, sorry for the smoke coming out of my ears.

FF

If that's the case, take it with a grain of salt. I don't believe anything I hear from management around here until I see it with my own two eyes.
