Default Flight Hours Requried for heavy Cargo flying

Looking around this site and the threads it looks like cargo airlines such as Southern Air, Kalitta etc. are airlines that pilots go through to gain experience. Does this mean that they will hire with low hours? How many?

I'm guessing pilots don't last more than a year right? Hows the quality of life for these smaller heavy cargo airlines?

It seems like many of these guys fall under "Supplemental Carrier rules" which I guess aren't very strict. So they can exact allot of pain and suffering from you. Any truth to that??

I don't know anything about hiring minimums at the carriers you mentioned, but thought I'd weigh in on supplemental rules. Contract & contract adherance is more important than what rules you're operating under. Operating to FAR limits on a regular basis is going to be killer no matter which part you're under.

Some guys stick around for a while, about 4,000 hrs with jet time is competetive for Kalitta. Seed's right about the contract, they beat the crap out of you some days, but that's the way it is. QOL is an individual thing, some guys love it, others don't. Guys coming up from the rj's seem to like it.
