UPS & FedEx Upgrades will be atleast 7 more years!
It will not be an additional 5 years but more like 8 years add to your time to upgrade. Why, because with the retreads coming back into the front seat. This will take any new growth the company has and could add the extra 3 or more years to the obvious 5 years. With UPS having 80 or so under 63 years of age it might take 3 years longer than the face value of the 5 year upgrade hit. If I was looking into UPS or FedEx I would give this some serious thought before leaving my job to fly for them. Bottom line at UPS, expect new hires upgrading in 18 years.
10 years + 5 years (65 Change) + 3 years (Retreads)= 18 years

Can't speak for FedEx but I have been told by a higher level manager that the 767's WILL be replacements for the dc-8's. They might not be doing the 8's lines but after shifting aircraft around they are the replacement aircraft.
Hope to be wrong but I see very little growth at UPS for the next few years in terms of new captain slots. Maybe we will open a Paris hub. lol

I can buy the CA upgrade being extended 5-7 years at FedEx.
Even without age 65, FedEx is overmanned and was not forecast to hire till '09. Which means few CA upgrades between now and then. Now, with age 65, the time has increased up to 5 years with another year or two added for guys going back to CA.

I asked our Chief Pilot the other day if the >60ers would be allowed to come straight back to a flying seat or would the company wait for an excess bid. He said, " I DON'T KNOW". If that should happen at FedEX (where we are already overmanned by 200 - according to him) I might see myself excessed out of my CA seat. ...But I'm Sure DW and his MEC will watch out for me...NOT!

Don't count on it. I am worried about being excessed with all these old farts coming back. Don't expect to see a junior bid anywhere for a long time (at FedEx anyway).
