Gunter,
Isn't having to retire at 65 age discrimination?
Let's cut the BS, this is about money plain and simple. For many, like myself, it was negative. For others, it was positive.
At this point it is mostly over, let's wait until FDX ALPA screws us over again somehow with the implementation.

I have to echo Nightfreight's thoughts. I'm more angry at this union, FDX ALPA which is supposed to represent it's members (rather than act against their wishes), than at the passage of the law.
I think an age change was inevitable at some point. I'm totally against it because I'm going to be sitting sideways longer than I wanted. And it's going to cost me money, and I'm very afraid that when I turn 55 in 20 years that I won't be able to retire "early" because that new number will be 60.
With all that me, me, me stuff said. I still feel incredibly fortunate to have this job at this stable company. And I'm glad I get paid to fly airplanes.
I think that I'll never trust ALPA again(at least until we see some leadership change but as someone pointed out we're stuck with our loser leaders for an extra 5 years)
Anyway, HAM thanks for the reminder that were all still pretty lucky dudes.

Was tasked on 12 hours notice to deploy to Dhaka for almost 30 days to fly humanitarian missions throughout Bangladesh...lived with 80 guys in an Embassy warehouse, with 2 toilets and 2 showers...some extremely huge bugs at night, and eating mainly MREs.
When I went "gear up" on the last day I looked down at the city and vowed to always remember that even the worst days in most places in the world are a lot better then living in Dhaka.
Yes, we live charmed lives at FDX --- very charmed.
A'o Aloha

It's really unfortunate that so many have become distrustful of our union. Management must be smiling. I am not happy with the age 65 change, the loa, parts of our new contract ,etc. I'm young (33) and am also really happy to be at FedEx. I think it stinks that there is a negative vibe hanging over our pilot group right now. Voice your concerns, vote for change, get more involved.....don't fracture yourself from the whole and further our problems.
