When I call in sick I tell them, "I'm sick until further notice." If they want clarification they can always call me back. I won't answer the phone however. I don't fly for one of the cargo airlines though so perhaps this reply doesn't belong here.

Our company computer system assumes the same thing: that you're sick until you call back in, well. After some amount of time however, you can expect a call from flight admin, just checking to see if you're still of this earth. A reasonable approach I believe.

Yup.

If you bid reserve, you have to sit well for at least ONE R-day in the bid month inorder to get paid for the other 15 you stayed out sick for.

As long as you have a ref number for your sick call why sweat it. I keep a folder (by month) on my computer's desk top and and every time VIPS generates a ref number, I 'save page as..' and drop it into the desktop folder.
Any questions pop up and I have a record.
Always check 6...
Nice technique. I personally hit control+print screen, which copies everything you see on the screen. Simply hit paste into word or excel after that. I have one word file with every reference number I have ever gotten.

Is this true? I didn't realize there was any requirement to sit reserve if you called in sick.

Sick for an entire bid month, while that bid month is RSV creates a unique situation. I think that was his point. You might want to look it up prior to it blind-siding you.

If you call in sick on reserve they typically only take sick hours out of your bank when they schedule you for a trip.

If you call in sick for the entire bid month (i.e. you are sick the entire time and never sit even one day) they will go back and dock your entire RLG from your sick bank, regardless of how few times they tried to use you that month.

True story.

I had 8 days of vacation during a RSV month. I knocked out 11 days with it. Then I worked a makeup trip. I called in sick for the 4 remaining R days. At the end of the month I was "billed" for those 4 R days. "They" said that I didn't work any days that month. What they meant to say is that I didn't work any of my remaining scheduled R days.

I went to my ACP who was SM. He took my case up to Crew Pay and Crew Skeds. He came back and said..."We lost...We need to change that in the contract!"

I'm holding my breath.
