what about VEBA - 50 cents an hour is given up for nice pots of money for those reaching a certain age....now they can work - and be covered/pay for regular medical coverage - for 5 more years. where's all that money going? are they going to push the age up 5 years to get it?

a Presidential veto (while not likely) is probably the last hope to defeat this measure.......at least until it comes up again.....and again......and.....

Hey genius, he has to say that. ALPA supported this pig from the beginning. He can't say something contrary to his organization even if he thinks it's a bad idea. Just ask 11 members of our MEC.

Most of us are peeved about this, but it's time to get over the FDX ALPA bashing--the company loves this and it really is getting OLD!

This just in from the chairman of APAAD:
"We have been notified that the President will sign HR 4343 tomorrow, Friday (time
unknown).
Anyone retiring on or after the day the bill is signed is IMMEDIATELY covered to
age 65.
The FAA has already served notice that they are ready to roll and that effective
with the President's signtature, the FAA will IMMEDIATELY annoint those 60 and
up as safe to fly.
There will be no transition time, no 30 day delay. The transition will be IMMEDIATE."
Let the screaming continue.

It'll be interesting. See, most of the guys that hit 60 and went to the back never BID it. They never changed their standing bids. I wonder how FedEx will handle that.........
I suspect or won't be surprised if they'll be handled the same as the guys who lose their First Class for a while. Once they get it back, they are put through either a short or long requal depending on how long they've been out of the seat. Turn on the seat belt sign. It's going to get bumpy for a while.

THAT'S WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND! How can we be overmanned, yet the company keeps creating S/O slots for these guys??

If you really think that it was because of our union that this thing passed both Houses of Congress Unanimously I've got a great stock pick that I'll sell to you...

It is really much the same situation that brought about the original age 60 rule, congress(all parties) bowed to the interests that helped them buy reelection.
