UPS vs FedEx
They both aren't hiring, but when hiring resumes i'm condisering applying for a job at either Fdx or Brown. Just wondering if some of you guys could give me your opinion on stuff like:
1. Whose schedules are better
2. Pay
3. Quality of life
Thanks

Coke or Pepsi, McDonalds or BK, tastes great or less filling?
After all is said and done I don't really think there is much difference. Do a search here there's been plenty written on the topic. If you get hired by FDX and sent to CDG or HKG against your will, UPS will probably win the QOL vote. Getting an interview and then a job offer from either one is equivalent to winning the powerball these days. You'd be foolish not to have apps in at both.

I think there might be several threads comparing the two if you try the search option...Both are great gigs...
I take it back - did a search of my own and couldn't find a thread asnwering your question...
I agree with Slice though, apply at both and if one hires you - you just won the powerball.
but let me ask you this - given a choice would you prefer to work for Atlas or for Polar...ooops, never mind

Take the first job you get - that's from FedEx or UPS
I remember pre 911 when I got my job offer from Purple, I went back to my squadron and a Delta guy told be congrats---his exact quote was:
"FedEx is a great airline and my second choice behind Delta. I'm gonna make a lot more money than you at Delta, but it's a great airline."
I guess times have changed and the double breasted boys have had to eat crow a bit, but things change overnight (STS) in this biz. One thing that will never change is that people don't have to fly if the economy goes south, but boxers seem to go regardless of what the economy is doing. I'd go with the first one who offered me a job--Purple or Brown.

Well, I will say that we at Fedex used to have our own forum on APC. That alone makes it a better choice. Until UPS gets its own forum, I have to say that they are a wannabe....
Other than that, I would call it a coin flip.....

Lots of things to consider.
Freight is better than pax for a chance to end your major airline career where you started it. Staying at one company for 20+ years is a net worth and quality of life enhancer
Forecast retirement income is a good starting point but has lots of variables. Contracts not yet negotiated and the contract after that one too.
QOL before you get to a decent line as Captain is often overlooked and sometimes overemphasized. With purple hiring not happening and the likelihood of foreign assignment when it starts again, UPS has the lead with this metric....right now. From 2002-2006 FedEx had the lead. (Spending 1-2 years in the bottom 5% is bad anywhere)
Once you have a line I don't know if FedEx or UPS is better for QOL. But this should at least be in the top 3 for considerations.
Some guys go with who asks them to start earlier. Not a bad way with these two. They have a duopoly in express freight and the likelihood of furlough is remote.
One last thought, how is the commute to Louisville vs. Memphis?

Even though I work for UPS, I would go to FDX if you have the choice. QOL. The company just treats there employees better. period. UPS is very cheap when it comes to the minor stuff. Domestic Hotels, Training Center, Ramp transportation ( 1975 Vans ), ID90's, Rest facilities. And YELLOW VEST!! No other Airline in the states does this?
