Default FEDEX mid-trip deviations

I researched previous posts and pretty much have a handle on the MTD procedure. Couple of things that I am still unsure of:

STN hotel is $118/night
CDG hotel is $138/night
Airfare from STN to CDG is $900 (which I won't use)

If I show up one day early in CDG rather than spend it in STN, do I call the hotel to get the contract rate?

Furthermore, assuming I don't get the contract rate and say the hotel costs me $200, can I allocate the unused airline deviation bank monies to make up the difference between STN planned cost and CDG's actual?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Section 8.C.2.d. deals with Hotel deviations. It would seem according to Section iii below, that yes, you need to call the hotel to make your "early arrival" reservation and make darn sure you get the contract rate. Hope they aren't sold out and do give you the contract rate.

8.C.2.d.iii. [Hotel] Domestic and International
....
(b) When hotel use is an allowable/reimbursable deviation expense:
(1) the pilot is responsible for his hotel reservation,
(2) reimbursement shall be limited to the contract hotel rate for the city associated with the revenue portion of the trip, and
(3) authorized expenses shall not be direct billed.

You don't have to stay at the contract hotel, though. If the contract hotel is sold out or won't give you the contract rate, you could stay at a less expensive hotel and expense it up to the contract rate for that city.

I know... zombie thread... but I was searching for my answer on here before I posted.

I have a mid-trip deadhead HKG-TPE with 50 hours in TPE before I operate. I'd like to spend a few more hours in HKG instead of TPE.

If I stay an extra day in HKG, is there a way to use the money saved on one day of the hotel room that I'm not using in TPE to pay for the extra day in HKG, or am I going to eat the extra day in HKG and Fred gets the TPE hotel money as a bonus? I don't have enough deviation bank to cover a hotel room.

Thanks.

The TPE hotel money is not part of your bank, only dh money. So you would eat the HKG hotel without any bank. If you did have bank money you would still be out of pocket approx $70 per day at the Sheraton because they will not give the contract rate for extra days. The Holiday Inn will though.

From my own personal experience....most hotels in the system are flexible and accommodating but for whatever reason the Sheraton HKG is a pain in the arse. NO early check-in and NO contract rate if you come early or stay late. It has been a few years so maybe they have changed and relaxed a bit but I doubt it.

A hotel's occupancy rate will be a factor in deciding if they want to extend the contract rate to you when you arrive early or extend your stay.
