UPS New Hire class
#4
Things they are looking at:
1. Age 60, over 160 guys that could flow back to a pilot seat
2. Slowing US and possible world economy
3. Most training slots filled with these displacements till summer 08
4. Ability to find more wide bodies
5. success of ANC to get going and see effecienies us there.
6. From talking to them I don't see any hiring if age 60 passes. 11 birds coming in 08 and 15 in 09. drawing down other fleets to fill 74 and age 60 guys will take the 200 slots with the new 76's. In addition losing 3 dc8's in 09 for parts birds and they need some type of heavy check. Do the math. I would not hold your breath. I'm in bottom 120 guys so I keep in touch with it. I never like being on the bottom. I believe everyone will including pax will considerly slow down the next 3 years it the normal economic cycle.

No offense, but if you are in the bottom 120, then HR did not tell you anything. WHy would they? In fact, HR does not know anything considering how UPS does business. The Atlanta folks will keep the entire airline in the dark on their true intentions. I also doubt that UPS will allow any retreads back in the front seats.
I think you are being a bit too pessimistic due to being junior. It's just my opinion and you obviously could be correct, but I doubt it.

That is the way it is worded...there will be some arbitrary date( probably picked with the throw of a dart or something). If you are over 60 before this date, then no front seat for you. If you are under, then you can come back to the front.......of course this is all subject to change at the whim of a bunch of politicians

First of all, it doesn't matter what seniority you are ups doesn't tell anybody anything anytime. Probably because hr doesn't know themselves.
Second of all hr.3074 and hr.2881 contain language that says you are grandfathered if you are on the active seniority list, in a required crewmember position on the date of legislation.
Nobody knows for sure about the pending nprm.

Depends, I have talked to PD, etc. They give their insights, etc. They will talk to a new hire if they know such individual, who they just hired! They don't look at seniority like us.
The training center is rife with 'opinions'. There are some folks that track what is going on and can spit out the scenarios (retirements, age 60, etc). Much of it is insightful. Unfortunately, you are correct about ATL <ng>
Have heard many of the items he brought up. Personally, I think UPS will be hiring by Summer 2008.

I think so too but for a different reason. I think we’ll jump on the bandwagon and get back into the pax business to capitalize on the upcoming elections. Passenger travel will increase tremendously before and after the presidential elections once people realize Hilary is coming to save us all from the evils of capitalism. The huge emigrant (notice "E" not "I") wave will be heading to less socialist countries, such as China, Vietnam, etc. and we’ll be happy to provide some extra lift…
Note! Sarcasm light is not only on - it’s crew-room coffee hot!
On a more serious note - anyone here ever got to fly the pax routes? I ran into many passengers in MEM and BNA who all loved the service...
