UPS New Hire class
#41
CC,
Was training new hires and was down to last 3 sims when they were sent to another fleet. It isn't common, but happens way too much to say it is an aberration. Have taught other crews who were in the last sim or two and were sent to us via displacement or company placed probationary moves. The long term scheds/ crew planning folks actually have a big picture, but no authority and accept the juggles as we all do. It is goofy, but 'we are moving at the speed of business' I feel the most sorry for these 'bubble crews' who are just senior enough to hold a seat, it goes away (displaced), and like being in the surf, get caught in a riptide and drift around the training center 9 months of two or three years until their seniority gets them ashore into safe seniority to avoid the bubbles. Example +10 F/O or CPT DC-8 with a -10 CPT or F/O this bid, two bids later... Switch. That is what causes the insanity. (of course it is simply responding to business needs <g>)

I did find solace in the fact that a displaced probie gets a paid move ... unless I misread Article 14 H 2 ... which references Article 12 K 1 b.
Responding to business needs at the speed of business !

I do like to drink beer though ! Isn't that part of fishing ? I'll be the one emptying the cooler to make room for the fish.

The really sad part is that when we see something like that, you can't get anywhere discussing it with them because your solution wasn't invented here. It is a catch 22. Line people can not possibly have any good ideas because if they did they would be managers.

You have just authenticated that you really are a line pilot at UPS

It NOW makes perfect sense ...
Thanks,
