UPS New Hire class

I don't know what or where he flies but could you get me a job there? That's not how it works in my squadron!

I liked this option for a couple other reasons too--I got to stay current in my 727 job and not have to go back to training, and I also kept myself "off the radar" as far as needing a lot of mil leave. I was ready to use the mil leave card if required, but try to leave that gun in the holster as much as possible. And--yeah its corny--I sort of dug doing both jobs.
Good luck in any case. Year one pay only lasts a year...it DOES get better...

To my surprise (and disbelief) I just heard ONT might see some shrinking, anyone else heard that rumor? It doesn't make sense to me and personally I don't believe it but wasn’t there some kind of 'big fish' meeting in ONT in the last week or so? I hope this rumor is not true, anyone?

I heard it does extend your probation but doesn't affect your longevity. You will still get your raise when you would normally....you're just still technically on probation. That's how I understand it.

Av8or,
I'm not privy to the company's opinion on this whole matter, but IMHO I'm sure they aren't real happy when a new-hire takes off for 6 months of military duty. This new-hire probably just finished training, and completed his consolidation. To the company, he's another trained and current pilot that they can't use on the line. He's also a pilot that will require another training event to become current when he returns to UPS.
I'm sure the company understands that our pilots have reserve/guard obligations (weekends/annual 2 week drill, etc), but they probably weren't banking on someone being gone for months at a time....especially when that pilot just joined the company. Just my humble opinion on how the company views this matter.

They should make the first year pay liveable.....problem (most likely) solved.

The way I read it is you need to make 1/2 the guarentee to progress a month on probation- 37.5 hours, then you have 2 periods to make up time dropped for mil. You can figure on your own how many out and backs from ANC-PacRim that takes. If you drop 6 mos of mil leave you come back as noncurrent, on second year pay, but a probie for 6 more months. Not a good precedent to set to get your buds hired later. Hoping to see more trip trading for less commuting myself.

hahahahah
Seriously, I agree with you. From the company's stand point, it doesn't make sense (to hire them, train them, then they disappear for a year), does it?
