Default New Guy Deviation Question

Hi All:

I want to front end deviate by driving about 120 miles from my home to an outstation to start a trip.

I've looked through the FOX system, but can't find where you claim your mileage from home to airport. You can claim mileage, right? Tolls and stuff would be under out of pocket, right?

I've deviated before, but always back end and never by driving my own vehicle. Help a bro out.

Fred

No mileage, gas, etc. for driving your own car; all out of pocket. You can use your bank for parking (up to $100). You can use your bank for a limo, but make sure you get the approvals (over $100 or over $200).

Don't forget to do the final checkin since you've never done a front-end dev. Since you are so close, ask your ACP if you can do the final checkin at the same time as your initial checkin (one less thing to mess up).

Thanks for the quick reply. Initial check in is 48 hrs prior and final is prior to 8 hrs before show, correct?

Default Not FOX....see the CBA

Short answer is that you are not allowed to claim mileage in this particular situation. It is in the CBA under travel expenses. Also, you cannot rent a car and claim it as an expense. The only mileage approved is delineated in the CBA and it pertains to training away from base.Sorry, but take a train or hire a car (for the approved amount per the CBA, of course).....

Or get your ACP to pre-approve the additional expense if it is more than the CBA limit. I dimly remember an old email stating that most of the ACPs wouldn't even bat an eye at a 150-200 fee in appropriate situations.

You can also call or write your ACP to see if they will approve you to do your final check in from home. They gave me approval on about 125 miles distance.

I would recommend a limo. Make a reservation in advance and find out the amount (tip is frequently included BTW). Then email your ACP for approval. This way there's no mileage on your car, no tolls to pay for and you can rest before your trip. One of our few good deals still left.

ACP's can only approve up to $200 though (I think above that it has to go to the SCP?). My experience has been that the ACP are quick to approve up the their $200 limit. Have done it many times in Asia (KIX - hotel = ~ $140).

I've heard the problem with driving (POV or rental car) is that the company is worried about liability issues if you hurt somebody in an accident while traveling on company business?)

Good luck ... you're smart for asking these questions in advance

Domestic final is prior to 8 hours, international final is prior to 12 hours. If you are within 100NM of your D/H location, you can do the final at home at the same time as the initial.

I understand we are covered under our company insurance when we use commercial transportation while deviating. We are on our own if we are driving our own vehicle.

True/False?
