I thought they were done for. Selling the sort facility, getting rid of all but one plane.

I wish those guys the best if this is the case.

DHL doesn't need the lift for peak. This is just a scare tactic to show Astar and ABX that they can be replaced. Can you say contract negotiations?

Hey thats great news for the Kitty Hawk guys! Is there any truth here or just rumors? I have a buddy that told me the ABX 767's and DC-9's are less than half full. Why do they need more planes when everything is already empty?

Sounds either too good to be true or too bad for ABX flights. Anyone fill in the blanks here? My buddy knows nothing of this.

Not sure whats happening there but this is the last I read...

500 to lose jobs as carrier stops cargo schedule

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The troubled cargo carrier Kitty Hawk Inc. is ceasing all of its scheduled air and ground operations, the firm said, a move that will cost 500 jobs nationwide.

The shipping firm, based at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, will continue its air-cargo charter operations. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month after reporting that demand for its air-shipping service had fallen by 25 percent, and ground shipping by 15 percent, while fuel costs rose sharply.

"Kitty Hawk has been unable to secure new sources of financing or a buyer for all or a portion of its assets, after considerable and continuing efforts which commenced in early 2007," the company said in a news release.

Spokesman David Rescino did not return phone calls Monday.

It's unclear how many jobs at Kitty Hawk's D/FW operation will be affected. The carrier maintains its headquarters here and also has a maintenance hangar at the airport, but most of its operation is in Fort Wayne, Ind., where it has a hub and distribution center.

A report on the Web site of the Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne said that 300 of the job losses would be in that city.

The company was founded in 1975 as a traditional cargo carrier, but in recent years had focused on overnight shipping of unusual items that other firms like FedEx and UPS wouldn't deliver.

Kitty Hawk transported items like exotic animals, valuable works of art and heavy furniture, and also did shipping for the automotive industry, electronics retailers and the apparel industry.

It filed for bankruptcy in 2000, after a difficult acquisition of rival American International. It emerged two years later with a new chief executive, Robert Zoller, a former American Airlines executive who had helped resurrect ValuJet after a crash nearly forced that airline, now known as AirTran, to liquidate.

Kitty Hawk emerged from court with a leaner operation, a long-term contract with its pilots and an optimistic outlook for the future.

But business has declined in recent years, and the airline posted a $14 million loss in 2006. In April, Zoller resigned, as well as Chairman Gerald Gitner and three other board members.

In July, company officials said they were considering "strategic alternatives," which could include a sale of the firm, and Kitty Hawk filed for bankruptcy Oct. 15.

Last week, the company notified the Securities and Exchange Commission that it was being delisted by the American Stock Exchange, where its shares are traded. On Monday, Kitty Hawk shares (ticker: KHK ) closed at 9 cents.

KH is trying to call back 13 737 crews for this gig. The FWA hub is gone. One 727 hauling horses. The issue may be if they can get the crews. Folks were in new-hire classes one week after being furloughed. There was a bid today to see who would come back but due to the short notice, 727 crew couldn't bid over. We shall see.

How do the ABX and Astar folks feel about this? Is there really a surplus of freight where this is needed or is this Bogus, and if there is a surplus does the language in the contract allow this under the scope clause?

I'm very curious because I just interviewed at ABX and there has been a lot of news coming out of there as late and I need to have good information prior to me comitting, if hired.

So when did the above mentioned gentleman hire in to KHA?

He has at least a couple of airline bankruptcy/liquidations on his resume.
