This is a great development. It is also NOT what I heard from either the union or mgt last month. I wonder what happened? Maybe somebody decided the potential backlash was too high a price to pay. Heck, maybe this was the vision all along...but it sure isn't what I heard when we voted. What I heard was "it will go senior" or "a month paid to be over there--especially with family--isn't that tough..." Interesting...glad to see it no matter how it happened.
There are MEC guys on these boards who were reading all of the pages of griping over STV and never clarified it this way...... WHY? Maybe I need to go back and read the posts.

Why would the company use SIBA, when they can STV someone for a month (or legally 3 months)? It is less expensive to STV, plus JL (and the company) already indicated that SIBA was not an option. SIBA does not fit into how the lines are being built. Plus, the company and union already indicated that STV was going to go senior. That people were going to jump all over it.

So how do these legally binding documents get written: Let’s see, we all agree that invol STVs should only be for 30 days but it will use way too much toner to include a separate paragraph so leave it at 3 bid periods. Leave that STV intention paragraph alone, we all know what we really mean. What do you mean you want to restrict R-24 for being assigned Hotel Standby we told you we would stop.

....but would "they" have come to that conclusion without a lot of folks talking about it via numerous venues?
They are watching, listening, reading, lurking.
...let's continue to proactively use the brains, voices and the strength of all 4,700+ FEDEX pilots.
It can be very effective.

Personally, I think it's awesome that we have shape shifting representation in our Union. Kind of like our own in house super-heroes.
No changes to the LOA...
POW! One month STV instead of three.
No additions to the LOA, we have no leverage, best & final offer...
ZAP! $10K more for deposits. How come the Union isn't ranting about contract management by FCIF?!
STV won't happen! The seats will go way senior. At least those that get filled...
KABLOOM! STV language doesn't REALLY mean what it says about filling vacancies.
The only thing more fun than watching this unravel is watching Hillary make up programs to bring out the vote. Or maybe the 'Yes' voter on the crew bus who said "What's STV?". I'm not sure which is more scary, though...

It's a classic example of setting low expectations initially and then being "congratulated" when you deliver something slightly better.

I don't know that that is exactly correct. What's more expensive, sending a guy over there for 15 days and getting 8 days of work out of him without the wife or sending him over there for 30 days, paying the per diem and getting 12 days of work out of him and paying for her to go along? I don't know, but I think the SIBA thing may work better for a while.
SIBA--Someone going over for 15 days (90 hrs of pay) for 8 days of work
STV--Someone going over for 28 days (68 hrs of pay) for 12-15 days of work
or 35 days (90 hrs of pay) for 15-18 days of work
I think 7-10 extra days of work more than pays for airline tickets for the wife, don't you?
Even if you get paid for the 2 days of travel each way, you still are working 3-6 days to offset the cost of airline tickets for the wife. This is still a big if because, despite questions on the subject, we still don't know if those 4 days will be paid or per diem only.
