UPS/FedEx Jumpseat Question
Hi everyone, I have a few questions about jumpseating on UPS or FedEx.
First, where to park? I'll be commuting out of PIT going to DTW, does anyone know if i would be able to park at the cargo lot and leave my car there for a few days at a time?
Second, which kinda goes along with the first question, any good ways to get from the passenger terminal to the cargo terminal or vice versa, without paying 20 bucks or so on a taxi?
and finally, is it fairly easy to jumpseat on these airlines/aircraft, and are there any other things that i should know of first before trying to jumpseat on fedex or ups?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you want to go PIT-DTW, your options on UPS are 1) PIT-PHL-DTW (11:21p - 5:44a) or 2) PIT-SDF-DTW (11:02 - 6:48a). There are no direct flights between those city pairs. They only operate Monday night (Tuesday AM) - Thursday night (Friday AM) with the PIT-SDF-DTW also operating Friday night (Sat am). Sounds like a long commute.
I've commuted into DTW when I worked for a DTW based airline. I only did it a few times. Taxis were only 8 or 9 bucks and that was about 2 years ago.
Occasionally you might ride with the crew if they are heading to the terminal which might happen on a Friday or Saturday am.
You need to call for the J/S. Your J/S committee can give you the number. I can't help you with parking. I've never been to PIT. Show up one hour prior. If loaded we can depart early, usually not more than 20 minutes.
Hope that helps.

I would respectfully caution against asking the operating crew if they cared if the hotel van ran you by the terminal. Sometimes that could be a 20 minute or more detour for a crew that has been up all night. If they have a short layover that might not be a good thing.

Pretty much the same deal for FedEx. I looked up a couple of flights and you're pretty much guaranteed a night hub turn through MEM or daytime with a long sit in MEM.
There's a link to our jumpseat finder for offline guys and I believe it's located on the AIRLINES page of APC under FedEx.
I've never been to PIT so I can't help with parking either. Good luck.
