Kitty HAwk Fleet

All there is to purchase beside the debt is the 727 fleet and there is not an operator outside 3rd world countries that are buying them. And if there were, UPS and FedEx are shedding them like last winters coat and my guess is they are in better shape and newer than the KH 72's.

naaa, it doesnt matter if the airline is operating. But KH has put themselves out for sale. My guess is to avoid going into BK again. And for a sale it does matter because there are no assets to purchase only the debt. I dont know a sane person that would buy a debt to get leased aircraft or leased anything for that matter. For what its worth.

I stand corrected. I hope you are just joking!
For the sake of the guys at Astar I hope their management spend their money on something that will last longer and cost less to operate than the 727. Even a post BK (possible future BK) KH seen the value to use the 737 to replace the aging 727's. And they own them and could see there is little future for the airframes. I understand operating the ones you own until the very last drop of life, but to buy them now makes no sense.
I think UPS loses their last one this year and FedEx will shed them as 757's come on line for the next 5 years or so. Why would Astar look to purchase such an outdated model? Especially in this day with fuel costs so unstable and noise issues at almost every airport in the country? I guess I'm just curious.

It's official, I'm wrong. Looks like Astar is still purchasing 727's. I'm speechless.
from a Feb. 2005 Cargo Facts
FLIGHTSTAR tells Cargo Facts it will convert four BOEING CAPITAL-
owned ex-ATA 727-200s for delivery to ASTAR AIR CARGO
in 2005. Flightstar will move its MRO and conversion operations into a
new, larger facility at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida late in the
second quarter of this year. The new facility will be able to house up to
nine narrowbodies and is also widebody capable.
okay the shock has worn off. Are there rumors that Astar is looking to buy Kitty Hawk?

IMHO, the reason is that Astar isn't in this for the long-haul. They're just holding things together for DHL long enough for UPS to buy into Deutche Post, at which point they (UPS) will begin merging DHL's North American ops (both ground and flight) into their own.

UPS aint gonna be buying nobody soon. They have to put $6.1 BILLION into a new pension fund for the teamsters.
