Here's the new UPS bid
#11
767Pilot,
Your post mentioned "no additional new hires required". Does that mean "no hiring" for a while at UPS or does it mean no new hires required to fill the seats of the bid (and hiring continues).
Sorry, I'm ignorant on the process.
I have an application "active" in the August window and I'm curious if this means no more interviews for a while.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Biff, here's a better answer:
14.H.2: Crewmembers may be assigned a position during their probationary period and do not
have the rights of displacement. If the position is in a different geographic domicile the
crewmember shall be entitled to a paid move in accordance with Article 12.K.1.b.
12.K.1.b: Displacement
A crewmember who is displaced from his domicile, in accordance with Article
14.G., and moves to another domicile, shall be eligible for relocation package
#1, pursuant to Section K, paragraph 3 below. This includes a crewmember
who is assigned a vacancy in another domicile pursuant to Article 14, Section
E.5.
Good Luck.

BTW looks like my sources were right on no displacements off the MD11 SDF!

I believe this realignment bid is just to address the retiring of the 747 classics. Its a numbers thing, that is why on the heals of this in Jan there will be another bid. We still have 6 MD11s coming in 08 and 7 400s also in 08. 2009 and beyond we also have 27 767s and 3 more 400s. So short answer is hiring will continue, this bid is just a little house cleaning forcing the staffing of ANC. I believe it was said publicly that UPS WILL hire AT LEAST 150 in 2008.

Nope. Just all those senior whale guys coming over to the MD-11 and pushing you down in seniority in your seat.
You might not see too much hiring as UPS not only has to absorb the 747 crews, but will also has to absorb the much larger DC-8 crew force into other fleets.
I foresee LOTS of probies and other junior pilots on non-ANC fleets getting involuntarily displaced to ANC.

I was told by a very good source in mgt. that Atlanta has ordered the airline to cut 200 million dollars from the FY2008 budget. Speculate on what that might mean for the crewmembers?

"Ordered", eh? Who do they think they are?...
I bet there will be more pressure to do single engine taxi's.
Seriously, though, if the place had a more user friendly approach to running the airline, I bet we could save them some money.

I agree. We have many crewmembers, that at best, just don't care or at worst, look for ways to screw the company over.
