Where's the Bid?

My lowest point was when the captain (a well-known guy) walked into the cockpit when I'd been here two months and said, "So... how many d!cks did your wife have to suck to get you this job?" I was so stunned I just said, "What?" So he slowed down and said, "How - many - d!cks - did - your - wife - have - to - suck -(etc....)"
I've found the "stupid look" works better than any comeback you could possibly come up with. Plus, I'm not that quick with the humor. Just give the a-hole the "look". He'll get it, he's seen it before. A guy like that, he's probably an alcoholic multiple divorcee with a crackhead daughter making porn movies and a son with a purple mohawk and a nose ring.
I think I know the dude you're talking about. Schoolhouse guy? He asked a new-hire classmate of mine who has a wife (pilot) at FedEx if she was fat and ugly like all the other female pilots here. He handled it really well and just did his job. Luckily, jerks like this are <1%.

In my first year here, I've come to the conclusion that there are lots of guys here that couldn't get hired at the major pax airlines because of their previous reputations and current personalities....................................

Stanford prison experiment
I'm glad you had a positive experience on the panel. To me, it was the most demeaning, frustrating and uncomfortable time in a 21-year flying career. I would have done anything - well, virtually anything - to get off it. CDG on F/O pay? You bet. I'd have made it work.

Now, I KNOW that all you guys here at APC would never treat a newbie flight engineer that way. But the psychos are out there, and I seemed to get all of them my probationary year. I'd have flown a Caravan out of CDG to get out of that seat.
Or maybe it was just the "greed or the thrill...."

Prisoners and guards rapidly adapted to their roles, stepping beyond the boundaries of what had been predicted and leading to dangerous and psychologically damaging situations. One-third of the guards were judged to have exhibited "genuine" sadistic tendencies, while many prisoners were emotionally traumatized and two had to be removed from the experiment early.
I wonder how some of our Captains would have done as prison guards?

In my first year here, I've come to the conclusion that there are lots of guys here that couldn't get hired at the major pax airlines because of their previous reputations and current personalities. So they got hired here. The majors went down the crapper on 9/11 and now these j-o's feel like they're King Sh!t. Good on 'em. Congratulations. I wish I had your foresight...

After 20 years here, I've come to the conclusion that we still seem to hire a few douchebags. Problem is, they'll probably recommend their douchebag friends.
Trust me...The "Major Pax" carriers have guys that shouldn't have been hired anywhere, due to their reputations and personalities. I've been there and experienced them.
We probably have about the same percentage. Don't be one.

Life is not fair
The number of buttheads at any one airline is a constant. The percentage varys slightly amoung airlines. The sad fact is that when a really jerk capt retires, a nasty former F/O who has been hiding in the closet swiftly jumps out and takes his/her place.
