Actually they’re referred to as “fastfeeder-driver inclement weather protection units.”

Maybe UPS should make its applicants pre-buy leather jackets, kinda like SWA and the type rating

I had a black one from a former airline, and it had been soaked with rain, snow, deice fluid, you-name-it, and I never had a problem with the jacket. You just wipe off the liquid, and TADA! Good to go!

To answer the origanal question, no the stipend does not apply to 740-400 crews in ANC. The stipend for MD-11 new hire crews start when released to the line (officially ANC based at that point). They have to sign a contract to remain in ANC for 3 years. The stipend will be effective approx. 9-10 months. That is about $11,000 take home. So, is it worth commiting to ANC and not getting out to the lower 48 for 3 years? (JMO not if you plan on commuting).

But the real killer is no moving package for the 747-400 new hires without a letter of agreement. That is a huge expense to undertake with the first year pay.

Rest assured, both the company and the Union want to come to an agreement on the issue. The intent was to have everyone in ANC on the LOA, but, somehow the letter was titled for just MD-11 crew. The company is sticking to the letter on this one. I am sure it will come about, but, crews may have to commute and do without the stipend for a few months or more.

The leather jackets.......

Thumbs up Awesome!

“What I find amazing is that according to the last email some 500 pilots who're entitled to a free jacket still hadn’t ordered one. I think that if someone truly does not like the jacket ... they should ... then “donate” this jacket to a post Sept.1, 2006 new-hire who would love to have a free jacket….Just an idea, I’m sure it’d never work but I’d hate for our more senior guys to give up some 500 great leather jackets that would make many of our new hires very happy…”

Archie bunker – “What a great idea! It makes so much sense....therefore, it will never happen.”

Saltydog – “Call the IPA EB and suggest it. It is a great idea, but someone needs to send the message. Mine will be that no one wear the leather jacket untill they decide to purchase them for everyone!”

“I'll call on Monday morning, I'm sure there isn't much they can do but then again who knows?”

- Check this out

{IPA LAUNCHES NEW HIRE LEATHER JACKET PROGRAM}
Since UPS is not providing Company issued leather jackets to
newhires, the IPA and its crewmembers are stepping up to the
plate to ensure that the Company's newest members receive the
jackets. After individual crewmembers began purchasing jackets
for new hires on a first come, first served basis, the IPA and
its Crew Equipment Committee worked out a deal with Perrone to
allow the more than 400 crewmembers who are eligible to order
a leather jacket but have not, to donate those jackets to a New
Hire
.

They listened to us?! …how cool is that? Personally I think it’s great pilots are donating jackets they don’t want to guys/gals who’d love to have them.

I couldn’t donate my jacket because I ordered one for myself, however I will buy one to a new-hire who signs up for the IPA Foundation (any amount) after his/her probation is up. I think that’s a good deal, isn’t it? I’ll call IPA with the offer when I get back from this trip.

What's to stop someone from calling Perrone, and tell them you are a newhire and get a SPARE leather jacket for free?

They know your employee number and thus your seniority and DOH.

Some of the 500 are the guys on leaves...they cant order their jackets until they return to active status.

From a Recent new-hire.... THANK YOU!!! I will be the recipient of a warm leather jacket because one of these generous individuals. I have been online a few months and can honestly say that I have never seen the camaraderie/hospitality/generosity displayed by this pilot group.
Thanks again.
