Not true. The Vacancy bid comes out first. The company is hoping that people will realign themselves before a displacement is necessary.

Why do you say they are being displaced first? I agree with 4th & Goal. UPS will do a realignment first and crewmembers that don't voluntarily reallign will be displaced.

I guess I misunderstood how this works. I thought the 74 classic guys/gals would first be displaced into whichever fleets they can hold and then the system bid would realign everyone into whatever fleet they can hold. However, now that y'all pointed it out, a system bid before a displacement (realignment) bid makes more sense...and people say message boards are waste of time, huh?

Ok can someone help understand how to place your displacement bid. I am a new hire and I know they may or may not look at my preference. I am on the 757 and want to stay there.

Do I bid ONLY what I want (757 SDF(z), SDF, MIA, ONT) OR do I bid everything in order of I want? i.e 757, A300, DC8, 747, MD11??

Bid everything as your preference starting with seat, domicile and the aircraft.

Only bid what actually exists, ie I have seen people bid Airbus Ont or 400 SDF

Realignment/Displacement Bid Opens 10/8
On Oct. 8, the first of three realignment/displacement bids will be opened to begin the process of moving crewmembers off the B-747 classic fleet and to expand the B-747-400 and MD-11 fleets.
The bid reflects the upcoming network changes associated with these draw downs/expansions. Subsequent bids will be open in January and May 2008.

See the table below for specific numbers of crewmembers to added and removed from the individual fleets.

As a result of this bid, there will be no additional new hires required. 16 current DC-8 second officers will eligible for upgrade to remaining positions systemwide.
