It does matter, it’s the effective date that matters to you (the effective date will be announced when the bid comes out). If you’re off probation on the effective date you’re good to go. If you’re still on probation on that date, they might “listen” to your ‘pleas’ if you’d like to go to ANC for example – which would help them. Otherwise, I think your bid won’t be looked at. That’s how they explained it to us last year.

I believe one of the last system bids, and I can't remember which one, they let probation pilots bid. You had to be on the property like 8 months or something like that.
If it suits UPS...... then they will do it!

It wasn't a system bid; it was the 727 displacement bid where they "looked" at the displaced new-hire preferences. Most, but not all got their first preference.

As far as I know, all the probationary 727 crewmembers got their 1st choice as long as it wasn't a CA slot or 74 classic FO. There wasn't a restriction as to time on property. The 727 was going away and the crewmembers had to go somewhere.
Guess we'll have to wait and see who they let bid on this upcoming bid and whether it's solely a displacement bid or it has some vacancies thrown in as well.

My friend was hoping for MIA but got his second choice SDFZ; they'd put you wherever you wanted to go as long as there was an opening for you there...

E. Awarding of Permanent Bid Position (Vacancies)
b. Upon closing of a vacancy posting, crewmembers shall be awarded the vacancies in accordance with their system wide seniority and their preference bid, unless otherwise excepted by this Agreement.
c. Crewmembers shall not be awarded (i.e. the posted closing date of the bid) a vacancy during their probationary period unless the needs of the service require such award.
Displacement bids are different, probationary pilots have no rights.
That being said, UPS has to their credit, consistently looked at all bid choices that probationary crew members have had on file and awarded in seniority order. So it is smart to have a standing bid on file even when on probation. Probationary crewmembers with no standing bid suffer whatever is leftover because they satisify standing bids first. They just don't contractually have to honor the choices. As AV8OR WANNABE attests.
On the flip side, they are not looking at your choices in this example: If you are not on the list to be displaced. i.e. newhire SDF MD-11 F/O and you want to go to ANC MD-11, they won't send you because you are not even on the radar for the positions in play. Sounds stupid until you think about it, they are only looking at what needs to be filled and who is being moved.
H. Awarding of Displacement Notices
Upon closing of a displacement notice, crewmembers shall be awarded the displacement moves in accordance with their systemwide preference listing in order of seniority, unless otherwise excepted by this Agreement, or excepted below:
2. Crewmembers may be assigned a position during their probationary period and do not have the rights of displacement. If the position is in a different geographic domicile the crewmember shall be entitled to a paid move in accordance with Article 12.K.1.b.
Hope this helps

Has anyone heard when the next system bid might be coming out? Also, the displacement bid (for the classic 74 crews) will happen before a system bid, correct? I guess it wouldn’t make much sense otherwise…
Also, do you think all the classic 747 guys/gals in SDF will bid over to the MD11 in SDF? I'm thinking that it would make most sense if they wanted to keep the same domicile and the same type of flying.
I’m just trying to figure out if 1 ½ years on property will be enough to hold MD11 in SDF. Right now, I’d have about 45 guys/gals below me but that’s before the displacement.
What do y’all think?

BC said that this time new hires will not be able to bid out of their current position. That being said, they should still have a preference on file, you never know. And, no, effective date doesn't matter. Bid closing date does.
BC said that the plan changes daily, but, most of the big changes are set. We will see

Not true. The Vacancy bid comes out first. The company is hoping that people will realign themselves before a displacement is necessary. You will see your name highlited in yellow if you are a primary displacee. Make sure you have your choices on file before the displacement (if there is any) occurs.
