4 MD-11

All overwater experience. I believe only 1 from "pool" early 2007, all others recent interviews.

At this time only the MD-11 crews receive paid move and overide for Anchorage.

Not according to a previous thread:

Mad Dog - Talked with Brian C. in Man Power Planning 2 weeks ago. He said the next system bid will be out the second week of Oct. It will be to down size the 747 classic and increase the 747-400ANC. The classic 100s will go after peak. UPS will then have only about 3 200s left. There will be some small gains in MD-11ANC with no displacements for MD-11SDF.

There may be a few other primary vacancies, but will be minnimal. BC said that this time new hires will not be able to bid out of their current position. That being said, they should still have a preference on file, you never know. And, no, effective date doesn't matter. Bid closing date does. BC said that the plan changes daily, but, most of the big changes are set. We will see

I think MD would be better for you if you want to switch to SDF once you get off your probation. 747-400 won't go to SDF for a while and if you go to SDF on the MD you won't have to go through training all over again. Just my 1/2¢. Welcome to Big Brown!

Huh? They do!

...but maybe you meant to say "why shouldn't Brown put newhires in the whale when Cathay, Atlas, etc do?"

I think the answer to that is - on top of our newhires going to the -400 in ANC many of our ANC captains are also pretty new to the international flying; many used to fly domestic trips only out of SDF.

Whereas at the other carriers, all the captains are pretty familiar with the international flying since most did that kind of flying as FOs. At UPS however, you might have two (relatively) international-flying inexperienced pilots flying to China. Whether right or wrong, that's why the feds worry.
