Why Brown managers won't unionize

Everything you said made sense to me except the comparison above. I see where you're coming from but do not forget that a new hire mngr makes at least $100,000/year more (maybe $150,000? - I don't know the actual numbers) than a new hire line pilot during the first year (with stock options it’s probably even more). We might be getting a nice pay compensation if we get home a day or so later but surely it isn't an extra 100K/year, is it?
Consider your 1 jan 2008 base pay is 109,000 annually for a 2nd year F/O. Worst case of 15 days reserve every pay period leaves us working 13x15=195 days. The rest of the time is mine. Sure, JA calls may come, but if you are not available, you are not obligated to go to work. They are 24/7 on call 365 days a year. For what I consider a paltry difference in pay, I'll stay a line pilot <g> I do not need to be contactable. They had better be. Sure, they don't work all 365 days, but effectively on 'duty' and they are always on tap.
More to your point, if I am on trip/reserve for a 7 day block. I know that 9 days from the start of that work period I can arrange a family event (kids/wife etc) and know that UPS will have me back. In the unusual circumstance that a mechanical happens/wx/etc and I do not get back in domicile on time, Art 13 E Revision of Trips takes 12 pages to explain all the premiums, restoration of days off, etc. In other words, the contract provides extra benefits for these revisions/delays of upto 250% of pay. The supervisor on salary as zero pages and can cancel his family event and hope he is remembered for his team assist. Watched that a few times. Always glad to be a line pilot when it does.

In theory you are correct but in reality you are wrong. First year fq mgmt make considerably more than a first year (or second year) line guy/gal.

Agreed. I guess I was thinking it rather than typing it. You are correct that they make much more than us first year, but I know that I made more on 2nd year than at least 2 FQSO that I know of. The point that I was trying get across was that not all newhire FQSO are paid CA rates - some make FE and FO rates (company created, not from the contract).

If our union is smart they should go after all the flight qualified supervisors right now!!! Its the time to getter done! Union friendly administration, sitting in the white house, the iron doesn't get much hotter to brand these guys IPA once and for all! I am bottom 300 and I know the implications and its still better to have them on our list than not! Thoughts???
