You might either check in on a Southern thread or start a new one asking the question. I think you'd get a better answer.

I might need a new thread for that, but maybe not.
When people say that they get to see the world, do they really? Or do they get to see the hotel and the hotel bars?????? I'm all for drinking beer and seing the world. Single and loving life and don't mind being gone. But I'm also not a big fan of hanging around the airport on a layover.

Full disclosure, I am biased here, I turned down a job at Southern to go World.
Wild card might be, SAH has scooped up a batch of folks from Kitty Hawk, many are great quality, might make a nice improvement there, but YMMV.

I dare say your correct. A lot of young guys leave World to go to UPS or FEDEX. But the numbers are few. Most guys who are at World, been here quite some time with no intentions of leaving. With a pension that you are vested in after 5 years, World tries to keep their people happy to stay.

I have several friends there, all saying the same things, it is just a temporary place to be, they are ALL keeping their resumes up to date.

Having flown with several of the guys that left for UPS, I can say that a big part if it was the uncertinity of the Gobal buyout and the new fleet plan. We knew that the 3 MD-11 were leaving and the B747 appeared to be stalled. That could have lead to furloughs. We are keeping our fingers crossed, but it looks like the 74's are coming and the new DC-10 have come. The immediate threat of furloughs has past.
The future is still in flux. The CEO of Gobal has resigned (was he fired?). Rumors of Gobal and/or Matlin Patterson buying Arrow or Gemini are flying. ATA is getting out of the scheduled passenger business for now and North American has swapped scheduled service for charter business. The bright spot is that World is making money.
